Hi, I was just wondering what you'll get out of cutting off my exhaust to the mufflers? Would I lose torque but gain top end? thanks, Eric

Could you be more specific about the design of the exhaust system and the point at which you might be cutting?

all you will get is interior resonance...
i just put my tailpipes on yesterday
and they are NOT ever coming off!

I'm not sure you'll gain a whole lot....there are a lot of people that mention using 3" pipes and then using 2 1/2" tails because the tail pipes really don't hinder performance all that much.

It will be quite a bit louder though.... smile.gif

My exhaust system is a 3 inch to 2.5 with an "H" pipe. I remember my brother cut his tail pipes off and then went to the track, he gained a 10th of a second. I think this would give off a little more less restriction. Also, the reason why people have more resonance in the interior is because they put dumps on the end of the muffler making the sound bounce off the ground to the sheet metal. I just cut mine today. Sounds good, I'll see what my numberss are like at the track next thursday night at Irwindale Speedway.

Not really, I use to have my exhaust end out of the flowmasters, no dumps just ended and it was very loud in the car. Since then i put dumps aiming at the ground and it got quieter in the car. Now i can hear the radio :D still cant hear my pete jackson inside the car at all...

Guys would dumps make the car sound louder going down the road?? I am just wondering because my friend that had a 70 496 witht he flow master american thunder system when he came down the road in 1st gear it sounded like a friking JET!! You could hear that car a good block and a half away, but my 70 with the flow 40's doesn't have that sound, but I have the normal rear exit tips.
