: CAR CHEMISTRY EXHAUST INSERTS
Robert G Mar 30th, 04, 6:48 AM HAS anyone tryed the three disc exhaust insert? does it work, can it control the sound ?i was
thinking would it work if it was installed in a 3" strait pipe to tame a loud exhaust system befor the mufflers
pdq67 Mar 30th, 04, 6:55 AM Either them or the "cones" that I saw in Summit's big cat. recently??
Personally, I would look into adding short glasspacks in the system for use as "resonators" either in front of or behind your present mufflers if it is too loud..

MCAF Mar 30th, 04, 7:47 AM I have tried them
I installed the exhuast which consists of
1.75 headers to 3.5 collectors reduced down to 3" pipes with dynomax bullets to dumps before the axle
this ended up WAY to loud and had a crackle that I didn't like so I called around to Car chemistry and the place that makes the cones. I decided to try the TWO disc CC inserts
I think they work GREAT they took out the cackle and deepened the tone enough to work on the street. Now granted it is still very loud when you romp it but our local sheriffs are cool about it as long as you don't get carried away
Hope this helps

camcojb Mar 30th, 04, 1:24 PM They work to quiet it down. They also knock a bunch of power out of your combo, especially if it's a high powered setup.
I tried them behind the big block in my Camaro and there was so much backpressure it bent the insert. I loved the noise reduction but hated the power loss.

baddbob71 Mar 30th, 04, 4:14 PM wow that much backpressure, that kinda defeats the purpose of a performance exhaust unless the only goal is a certain sound.
Dragn70 Mar 30th, 04, 6:34 PM They were made for dirt trackers. From what I've been told, they don't hurt them much because of their narrow, high rpm power band
SS540 Mar 31st, 04, 6:56 AM I have a set of the 3.5" units if anyone will pay for shipping and a couple of extra bucks for me standing in line @ the Post Office.
pdq67 Mar 31st, 04, 7:03 AM I meant true W/D/T perforated inner core glasspacks, not those little funky Bullet deals that are for roundy-round cars that run right off the header collectors.
Use them like resonators to tone it down...

pdq67 Yes Paul, I used the Dynomax bullets to take the edge off the exhaust noise. They're a straight-through design, look similar to a glass pack. No real restriction and do help quiet it a bit.

pdq67 Mar 31st, 04, 1:22 PM I'm glad they work good enough for you Jody, but I figure a pair of short, say 18" long, glasspacks would do a better job of noise attenuation over the Bullets since at least the pair I looked at on a friend's roundy-round car looked way to big in dia. and too short when compared to a real W/D/T glasspack.
They mighta been 3"s or maybe 3.5"s x 12" long???
My friend did say his Bullets did help tone his motor down fairly good though.....
