Hi just wondering if anyone could help me out with the different tire compounds. I am thinking of getting a set of goodyears 29-11-15 with a d3 compound. How does the d3 compound compare to m/t m5. Id like to go with mickey thompson but they dont have a 29" tire and nobody up here seems to stock a m/t 28-10.5-15 w. Hoosier have a 29" but they sound soft with a d06 compound and the section width is wider but may still fit. Radials are out of the questions as I will be using a transbrake. Also the car is 3800# so a stiff wall would be nice. Any comments would be appreciated

On the goodyears the lower the number the softer the compound. I run the d-5 compound tires on mine with the stiff sidewall. I know my friend had the 10.5x30 goodyears on his 68 chevelle.

Im trying to stay away from 30" tall tires. The radials that are on my car now are 30" and have rubbed fairly hard on the drivers side front of the wheel opening. I made the lower control arms 3/8" longer but its still just too close. I think it had alot to do with body roll, now it may be ok with the anti roll bar but the 28"-29" would fit the car a lot better. Just im not geared for the 28" tall tires and motive gear is saying the 3.90's may be availlable in may but i dont wanna count on it. So for goodyears the only option for a 29" tire is the d3 compound, which they call extended life which to me is saying there hard and wont wear. So just looking for comments if anyone has run the goodyears part number 2006. thx, Brent

I'm sorry you are right. The d-3 must be a new compound. As far as I knew they had the d-1 was a soft compound for a rolling burnout car and the d-5 was for a stationary burnout car. But as I see it, it's the next step above the d-5's. So it may work better with a real heavy car. I usually get 100 passes out of the d-5's at 3150 lbs.

So it sounds like they may be ok maybe a bit harder then m/t m5.
