I have been looking at rebuild kits for my 1970 Elcamino SS. What I have found looks to be for the oval shaped lid, that is, unless the only thing that matters is the bore size. What I have came up with is a Bendix kit part number 22757. The one thing I wonder about is that in the pic the kit looks like it has a few extra parts than mine http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductDetail.aspx?MfrCode=BEN&MfrPartNumber=22757&PartType=229&PTSet=A

I took the master cylinder apart and the bore looks good. A light hone ought to do the job and eventhough it is a BE code it'll do the job just fine. I do need to do a little searching because I could use a new gasket for the lid and a couple of new bleeder screws. I'll let you guys know if this is the right kit. BTW I did search and came up blank for people rebuilding themselves. Later

Been awhile, but I have done a few myself.Kinda cool to do if you got the time.

The extra parts are residual valves and seats. The self tapping bolts are for removing the old seats. It comes with two, because that kit also is used for some drum/drum applications.
Check your original cylinder for a residual valve in the rear port by pushing a paper clip into the hole in the seat and feeling for the valve. It will be obvious. Chances are there is none (made after 1967). If there is one, you should remove the seat, and replace the valve and seat. Alternately, you could add one to the rear port anyway if you have rear drum brakes. It wont hurt, and no one can then tell you you should've added it anyway.

The 22757 is correct for the oval master and uses a long pushrod. Check the primary piston against the one you removed. The depth of the hole for the pushrod should be the same. The kit for the short pushrod is #22670.

The cap gasket can sometimes be found in the "help" aisle. #42071 by Dorman or Motormite

edit: If the secondary piston needs to be replaced, there is a kit available from Corvette specialists with both pistons and all seals, but no residual valves. Long pushrod 1 1/8" bore only IIRC.

Well....ran into a snag. I disassembled and cleaned up the M. cylinder bore. It seems I have a small but deep rust pit about 1 inch from the snap ring groove. I already have the rebuild kit and top gasket. I have a line on another master cylinder so hopefully it comes through. I really don't think I'll be spending $100 for a repop one when I can buy a new Bendix one for $50. I want it to look original but these days I have to stretch a buck and a new master cylinder isn't really cutting corners.

BTW Thanks Chevry for the info...I figured out about the residual valves. For some reason I though they went in the bottom of the reservoir...duh I was wrong.
