Derek;

I need your experience here and i'm new to this stuff. I hope to meet you at one of the Northstar meetings. I just got my 1970 Chevelle, stock with manual drums on April 20, 2007 and I can't wait to get cruising in it.

1) I want to purchase a kit for 4 wheel power discs. I'd like a supplier who uses parts that are GM compatilble for future replacement or upgrade and don't want a bunch of custom one-of-a-kind, hard to replace parts. I've seen a couple of suppliers listed in some of these threads and it looks like I will budget about $1299 to $1495 for the kit parts.

2) If I go with the 2" inch drop spindle, will I have to change anything to suspension or can I keep it stock? I'm budgeting just for the brake conversion at this time and don' want any suprises, that if you do this, you have to do that!

3) Some suppliers let you chose the size of the power booster. What would be a good fit for the 70 Chevelle 350 V8, 9" or 8"?

4) The only thing i've concluded is that I will use 11" rotors.
Anybody please comment but I was hoping Derek might see this thread and have a comment.

If it were me. I would, at least start with converting to front disc brakes to begin with. There are a few front disc brake kits out there for as low as 600 dollar range. They are based on the traditional front discs used by Chevelles and Camaros in 69-72. So finding parts is not hard.

Are you just wanting to go with a lower stance and thats why you are considering a drop spindle? I would suggest starting with a set of lower perfromance springs if you just want the lowered stance to start.

(although I did it even cheaper by sourcing some used parts)

Anything that will wear out or quit working is a GM part, and the only parts you can't get at your local NAPA are the proportioning valve and caliper brackets.

2) If I go with the 2" inch drop spindle, will I have to change anything to suspension or can I keep it stock? I'm budgeting just for the brake conversion at this time and don' want any suprises, that if you do this, you have to do that!Most drop spindles on the market are actually worse for the suspension geometry than dropping the car with springs. I'd use stock spindles, and if you want to improve the handling, look at the tall balljoint packages from www.scandc.com (http://www.scandc.com)

3) Some suppliers let you chose the size of the power booster. What would be a good fit for the 70 Chevelle 350 V8, 9" or 8"?Stock boosters were 11", but they will not fit if you have tall valvecovers. The smaller the booster, the more vacuum it takes to operate, so if you have a big cam, you'll need the bigger booster.

I look forward to meeting you at one of our club events also. :thumbsup:
