: $800 427 Bbc??
wagonman65 Apr 21st, 07, 5:34 PM I was wondering if someone would weigh in on what a 427 BBC would be worth. The block # is 3963512 with a date of E 27 9. The suffix code is T0609LE. From the information i have gathered, it is a 335HP engine. It has a 2 bolt main and the crank is a standard cast crank. The heads are suppose to be 101cc Closed Chamber heads. Head # 3931063 dated E 19 9. The heads have had a valve job done and haven't been fired since. My question is, "Is it worth $800?"
Thanks,

Buster Apr 22nd, 07, 8:38 AM For a real 427 $800 is cheap so long as it does not have any spun bearings. I own a complete 335HP 427 and was offered 1200 bucks by a 67 427 Corvette owner for it back in the 80s without trying to sell it. He said he was having a hard time trying to find a real 427. I told him it was just a two bolt main and cast crank he still wanted to buy it for $1200.
grovey Apr 22nd, 07, 10:24 AM it came from a 69 impala 335 hp , ls1 , th 400 , 4 bbl carb , super sport .
Buster Apr 22nd, 07, 11:10 AM Wagonman65, I replied to your PM, let me know if it didn't go thru.
BACK FROM THE DEAD Apr 22nd, 07, 8:38 PM buy it.
wagonman65 Apr 23rd, 07, 1:13 PM So even if it is not put together its worth at least that much? I've been told that the dome pistons and closed chamber heads makes too much compression for regular pump gas. I've also been told that it should run fine on pump gas even at 10-10.5:1. I appreciate all the opinions, I guess I'm still open to suggestions as to what I should do, buy it and leave the compression alone, or buy it and switch to flat/dish pistons and open chamber heads.
Thanks a lot

Mr69 Apr 27th, 07, 7:32 AM Before shelling out any money, you should take all of the components to a machine shop and have them dissassembled, hot tanked, magnafluxed and checked out. Otherwise, you could just be buying junk.
BIGBLOCK70Z Apr 27th, 07, 9:43 AM if it has the right pistons you can have a little of the dome milled off. but i dont see a problem with 11 to 1 if you use 93 oct.
dreis454 Apr 27th, 07, 9:56 AM a 427 with a cast crank?????:noway:
I didn't think any came with a cast crank.:noway:
BIGBLOCK70Z Apr 29th, 07, 4:16 PM it was made a long time ago. the only way to really know is look and measure the third counter balance to see if a 96 or27:yes:
BIGBLOCK70Z Apr 29th, 07, 4:18 PM oh yeah 54 cranks have a dowl pin. on the end. i guess they were hoping that the tourqe was so great that it would shear the flywheel bolts.
