: Anyone have a dash light circuit schematic?
MinionII Apr 21st, 07, 12:52 AM The dash lights in my car have not worked as long as I have owned it. I pulled all the bulbs I could find, and they are all good. I don't have any other electrical problems with the car. One thing I noticed is that the lights come on if I jump 12v to the dash light fuse from any of the other fuses on the block. The fuse isn't blown. When I do this, they come on regardless of the headlight switch position. I tired poping in another switch just because I had one around, no change...
I was hoping someone had a circuit schematic they could post.
Thanks,
Andrew
Dean Apr 21st, 07, 1:01 AM What vehicle?
The dash light fuse gets power from the taillight circuit.
anychevy Apr 21st, 07, 1:11 AM Dark green from the lightswitch supplies power to the fuse box for that circuit
MinionII Apr 21st, 07, 3:03 AM Sorry, I suppose supplying the important details will help you help me...
:D
The car in question is a '69 Chevelle Malibu (2dr HT)
So...the dash light fuse only has power to it when the headlight switch is on? Interesting...
MinionII Apr 21st, 07, 3:01 PM So...it would seem that my problem lies in the green wire that runs from the headlight switch to the fuse block then, yes?
Philip Apr 21st, 07, 3:10 PM or the taillight fuse. The dash circuit was powered that way so you would know if your taillights went out.
undee70ss Apr 21st, 07, 3:16 PM Headlamp switches have a rheostat for dash light dimming. Make sure to turn it up all the way to full brightness, or it could be bad. With headlamp switch on, Check for power at the 20g DG wire. You can also disconnect the wire and apply power to it, this will tell you if the problem is at headlamp switch or farther downstream.
MinionII Apr 21st, 07, 3:37 PM Ok, will do. Thanks.

did you try another switch ? or just the knob ?

C'mon now...the switch, of course...
:)
Haven't had time to do further troubleshooting, but when I do, I will report back.
Thanks

Would anyone have this exact diagram for a 66?
Or how close is this to a 66?
The wiring diagram has been on back order since Feb. The one in the chassis manual is b&w and hard to decipher.
I have no dashlights or wipers, and will work on them as soon as I get a diagram.
Thanks if you can help!

I have one simular for a 65 if you want it but I don't know how much it differs from a 66.
rkd Apr 27th, 07, 11:52 PM Bless you. These are much easier to read in color!

sorry I had to ask, but you'd be supprised ? any luck yet ?

One of these days maybe I'll finish coloring that one
I'm bad about starting something and not finishing it.
:o

No problem. I had a mechanic top up the blinker fluid...he thought it would help. ;)
I'll be looking at it today...
Thanks,
Andrew
MinionII Apr 28th, 07, 6:19 PM Ok....
I pulled the switch out, and applied +12v to the green wire...dash lights came on. So then I tore into the switch to figure out what the problem was. Wow, it's not that easy to figure out what goes where even with the switch opened up. I did find that the dimmer coiled wire was broken at the end nearest 'full bright', but the lights should have still worked at full bright. I used a very small file to polish the 'full bright' post and the sliding contact. The lights work now, but, I still need a new switch in order for the dimmer to work.
Also, the dash lights get there power from the orange wire that goes into the switch. This is the same 'circuit' that the tail lights get there power from, but it's just a splice connection. If you look at the full res wiring diagram posted above, you'll see that the orange wire is more of a 'bus' feeding +12v to multiple items.
Thanks for the help,
Andrew
Ron H Apr 30th, 07, 9:17 PM These color wiring diagrams look like the one I have and bought from John Anastasio at www.ClassicCarWiring.com for a few say $20 or so I paid for mine ... It's gorgeous, and I refer to mine all the time. Come on guys, don't you think for a few bucks you could purchase one from the guy? I think it's ok to help each other out some, but to publish one on the 'net .. free to all to view? I think we should be supporting those businesses who support us. My two cents.
Just curious,
How do you figure he supports us?
Are you sure about that price?
And wasn't GM the one that they were copied from in the first place?
klasicjon May 1st, 07, 1:44 PM Dean, do you have the dash wiring diagram for the 69. I have trouble following the one in the assembly manual.
