: Haggerty Insurance, Have a few questions.
Alwhite00 Apr 19th, 07, 10:29 PM I have a 70 Chevelle - Just painted and in the middle of putting it back together. I estimate it's finished value around $15,000 - Give or take. I am interested in getting another insurance policy on this car only. Right now I have it in with my daily drivers. Have a few questions. I understand I could find this out on the Haggerty websits but I would like some first hand answers.
Are there any driving restrictions as far as milage or any other restrictions?
What do I need to put a value on the car? Professional appraisal? Blue book? Pictures?
Has anyone ever filed a claim against Haggerty? I obvously don't plan on wrecking this thing after the tons of work I have put in it but there are things out on my control that could damage it. My main concern is hitting a deer. Tons of them around here, I am ver cautious but you never know.
Anything else that I need to know before calling? Will they insure it even though it's somewhat apart at the moment?
Thx.
LK
BlueSS454 Apr 19th, 07, 11:14 PM Hagerty doesn't have any mileage restrictions per say, but it's for exhibitional purposes or pleasure driving only.
They work on what is called an agreed value meaning that you as the owner and they as the insurer agree on a value you gove them so long as it's not ridiculous. They go by the NADA guides and other market information to see what the car is going for. It never hurts to have a professional appraisal. Kelly Blue Book values are null and void or worthless with these types of policies.
They will insure it while it's being restored. I called them up about adding my Charger while it's in pieces and they had no problem with that. I chose not to insure it until it's finished.
Just call them and go over each of your concerns. They were very helpful with me when I needed a policy. I've been with them for 7 years now.
Stalkingbear Apr 19th, 07, 11:29 PM Ditto.... my chevelle resides in my garage and is finally undergoing its resto... Haggerty has had it covered for five years and it has not moved an inch.... no problems with them at all.

I had a 68 Ss hit while in the garage. The garage wall did not stop the drunk from driving thru it.
I have Haggerty on my 72 and had it on my 64. I can drive all the miles I want as long as it is not used as a daily driver. I go to shows and such. One of these years I hope to make it to Chevellabration and maybe on the Power Tour. Weekend drives are also permissable. Haggerty knows we love to drive our cars, not doing the daily commute keeps them a lot safer. They will also not cover any damage incurred at a sanctoned race event, including drag racing at the track.

How are ya doing?

Alwhite00 Apr 20th, 07, 5:45 AM What are you guys paying for insurance? Is it so much per every $1,000 or rated on other factors?

72 Malibu Charlie Apr 20th, 07, 6:33 AM I pay 330 dollars a year to Haggerty and my 72 is insured for 45,000 dollars.
Ray Finkle Apr 20th, 07, 6:40 AM In my opinion your value is to low, my 72 malibu is insured through haggerty for 20,000 and the renewal is for 22,000. Haggerty uped the value to 22,000 ( I could of kept it at 20,000 but if they feel the values have gone up, thats good enough for me ) so Im going with that. The cost of the policy is $ 407 for the year. Policys are cheaper for "stock" vehicles. My 72 is modified so it cost more. Just think about it in the drive train I have $ 12,000 ( engine, trans to rearend ) Ill bet you have spent that much money or even more.

BlueSS454 Apr 20th, 07, 7:06 AM It depends on if the car is modified or not. Obviously modified cars carry a higher premium. My policy right now is something like $700 a year for the 3 cars that are on it. The 70 is insured for $30K, the 69 for $15K, and the 69 Cutlass for $4K.
MrBill66Malibu Apr 20th, 07, 7:09 AM I have Hagertys and so does my brother in law. His 67 Fairlane was in the driveway running when it slipped into reverse and crashed into his neighbors house. They paid for everything and renewed his insurance without a increase. They are on my list for a great company.

SSuper Dave Apr 20th, 07, 8:06 AM I've had Hagerty for 9 years now and couldn't be happier. Three years ago, I ws taking my '68 to get it inspected and an 18 wheeler merged into me and I was pinched between it and a big 4wd truck. Hagerty totalled the car and paid inside 2 weeks and even let me buy back the car, which I parted out. It seems like they are "car folks" there.
JamesRS Apr 20th, 07, 8:46 AM I have Hagerty Insurance on my Chevelle and here are the requirements that they have. You have to list how many miles you drive per year. The max number of miles that you could drive when I originally signed up was 5000, now you can drive over 10000. The car also has to be garaged, no street or driveway parking for storage. You also had to have proof that you have a daily driver other then your "Classic". I don't know if that is still the case, but I believe that it is.
Alwhite00 Apr 20th, 07, 12:15 PM What do they concider modified? Mine is not really "stock" but it is not a race car either. I have a 406 SBC / Auto but the remainder is pretty much the way it came. (other than the wheels & little things.

Widetires22 Apr 20th, 07, 3:13 PM I have been considering them too and got some input here:

I'll probably be calling them next week myself too.

I don't worry about that anymore, it happened when I lived in Phoenix.
