Did the emergency flasher button on the steering column start in 1967? Did Chevelles have emergency flashers prior to 1967?

Pre 67 it was was optional and 67 onwards it was mandatory, pretty sure ?

I'm not shure, but I know my 64 and my uncle's 65 don't have flashers

67 was the first install on the column. Prior to that it was a large unit mounted to an under dash bracket or a hole drilled in the dash. It had a big red plastic knob that flashed when the unit was on. These were not factory installed to the best of my knowledge.

My '66 has no emergency flashers at all. I'm looking to replace the auto column with a 4-speed tilt column and don't know if I can find one w/o the emergency flasher button.
