I have a '70 Chevelle with a auto tranny column. I bought a reproduction sponge seal to use for reinstalling the column and sealing it to the firewall. The reproduction sponge seal material was not elastic enough to stretch around the shift arm and over the end of the colum and it ripped. I called a local steering column specialist and he said you shouldn't have to dismatle the column to install the seal.

Does anyone have a suggestion on a company that supplies an excellent quality reproduction sponge seal or a NOS or new part that will be of better quality?

I had the same problem. I ended up splitting the gasket, glueing it to the backing plate that supports the steering colum and once installed you can not tell.:waving:

I'm having the exact same problem, is splitting the gasket and enlarging the hole for the shaft to fit the only way out or has anyone gotten a gasket that fit's?

Can't they even make something as simple as this fit right?
