I am looking to put in a new cam in my 408 BB 1970 Chevelle mainly fast street car. 4 speed 3.91
Has following.
820 Cast Iron head, Air gap RPM intake, 750 Holley Vac. Cam currently is Crane 296/306...236/246. Slug below 3500 RPM and I have looked at hydraulic Crane 286/296 and Comp ExtremeEnergy 274/286 and Crane XE 268/280
Did a dynamic CR and range for these cams are 8.2 to 8.477. (PS it helps to have a kid who takes calculus) The quench height is .055
I can get 94 octane Sunoco up here but if I need to get an Octane booster I will. Anyone out there used Klotz Octane booster (Ft. Wayne) Lead Supreme looks real good but no one carries it here.
My concern is detonation with any of the above combos, and doing damage.

I'd go with 8.2. You should be able to run 91 octane.
