Hey all. Need to make a descision on which fuel cell to go with, aluminum or plastic, and where to mount it.

I'ts an elky body style, actually called a UTE down here  . I want to mount it under the bed, behind the rear axle. This a bad idea? I am thinking a plastic cell is a bad idea right? Did a search here and noticed a few problems with plastic tanks, mainly leaking. Is this really that common?

The ute will see occassional strip duty, capable of low 12 sec qtr times, street duty, and some long trips (Basically I want my cake and eat it to :D ). Can anyone suggest which type, and location would be best for me?

Cheers,
Chris

Chris,

Probably noticed my message about leaking...I dont want to give out names but their initials are RCI ;) Mine leaked at the main outlets from the tank, even replaced the nylon washers and still leaked. I went with the aluminum cell made by summit and those bungs are welded on..no problems since. I have my fuel cell in the trunk (chevelle) to keep it away from anything underneath. You probably don't want it in the bed, as the sun will beat down on it alot. Personally if it were me, I would cut out a hole in the bed, and reweld a box for the fuel cell to sit in, Then make a flipper door to access the fuel cell from the top to fill it. That way you have it out of the way and can still use the bed, and you will have double protection underneath..just thoughts.

Thanks for the tip Mike. Not a bad idea that. Might get to test out my fabrication skills in the process   Cheers.

Any elky owners out there? What are you guys running?
