: Smokey Point Chevelle/ El Camino Show
flink69SS Apr 17th, 07, 11:16 AM I just sent out my registrations for it an Cruisin' on Colby.
How many of you will be doing the show in Smokey Point on May 20th?
There is a Buzz Inn right of the freeway here in South Everett if anyone wants to meet for breakfast before the show.
kettbo Apr 17th, 07, 2:22 PM Frank,
As of now I plan to head up SATURDAY 19 MAY. Would like to either go to Arlington to get my 12-bolt diff changed from 2.56 Posi to 3.42 Posi at Darryl's IF I've not done this sooner. Also plan to swap 454 parts.
If the diff has been done, parts swapped, would still come up SAT. Cruise/hang-out with you and Ben, some of the other fellas. Also there was a BBQ the night before.....Could hotel or camp at Darryl's in Arlington.
Ben has been after me to come up.....
RAMBO Apr 17th, 07, 2:25 PM I'll be there no matter what... but now that getting my car painted MAY have suddenly have become an option, my car may miss the show for the second year.... Althogh it will look "AHsom" for the yesterday's chevelle show in august!
gotago Apr 17th, 07, 4:10 PM Ben,
Was crusing this past SUN and I saw an Awesome orange 69 pass me coming into Yelm. Thought it was you for a second or so at first glance.
RAMBO Apr 17th, 07, 4:31 PM heh... No not me, havn't ventured quite that far with it yet- although, looks like tomorrow i will be taking all the way to downtown tacoma to have a bodyshop look her over... will be the longest trip yet... about 40 mins each way on the freeway. keeping my fingers crossed for no rain tomorrow. Guess i should have taken it down today- its beautiful out (albiet surrounded by thunderheads)...
Brettd85 Apr 17th, 07, 7:36 PM I should be at the Smokey Point show, will meet you at the Buzz Inn. :hurray:
When is cruisin in Colby?
I dunno if you guys have this but I just remembered I did. Its a list of all the shows/cruises in the NW. Looks like there is something going on every weekend. Almost going to be too hard to choose on some weekends.

It is a show for El Caminos and Chevelles only. The types of cars range from trailer queens to works in progress. You can get the info @ www.elcaminoclassics.com
If you want to go, you should meet up with us at the Buzz Inn in Everett and we'll have a caravan...
Dave Apr 17th, 07, 11:55 PM I'll be there for sure, probably won't make it down to breakfast though.
Hey George, when you say Darryl, do you mean FRYNTYRE? I went to his place to get the 781's on my 468. Nice guy, has a great set-up back there in the woods.
kettbo Apr 19th, 07, 8:02 PM Dave P., FRYNTYRE=Darryl. Long list of cars owned make positive ID too easy! He's not up too much on T-C. I searched his old posts, he was on a lot more a few years back. Started with answering Chevy Parts ads on Craigslist. I saw him run his 69 Nova last year at Pacific Raceways. He did mention some deal with heads fairly recently. I'll be heading up to his area soon.
All you guys up north just kill me! Seems fewer T-C gearheads down in Lakewood/Tacoma. I've found a few....one guy has a 1970 SS 396 and a SS 454 Ragtop! His SS 396 has the same paint /vinyl top/and stripes as my 70 Elky.
flink69SS Apr 20th, 07, 1:49 AM [QUOTE=Brettd85;1314671]I should be at the Smokey Point show, will meet you at the Buzz Inn. :hurray:
Looks like it's just me and you Brett...:beers: Who's buying beer this time?
blumax72 Apr 21st, 07, 9:08 PM Hey, I'm going also. Its way too close for me not to go. I will also meet you at the buzz inn. How do you register for the show? What time are you meeting at the buzz?
66SSFan Apr 22nd, 07, 1:17 AM I should be there too, but will know for sure as the day gets closer. I leave for louisana for a boat race on the 21st. It just depends if we are all ready to go or if I'll have any last minute things before the trip.

We may be few in numbers but our strength is the strength of 10 because our hearts are pure!!
flink69SS May 3rd, 07, 12:03 PM Just over 2 weeks away...You all going to be ready??
kettbo May 3rd, 07, 11:17 PM Frank,
I've been stirring the pot down here to drum up interest for Smokey Point.
I'm gonna meet "gotago" Mark for lunch tomorrow and hopefully be joined by "Chevy_Rat" Bruce. I've been after the guy with the two 70 SSs but he does not respond to the emails. A few others out there...also a few guys I've met on El Camino Central
"We few, we happy few, we band of brothers" or something like that
Darryl
Again, I'm planning on coming up SAT for some N-S fun. Hope to hook-up with "FRYNTYR" and other N Sound street thugs. I'm hoping for an early B-Day present of a new 3.42 gearset. I might have to bring 12 or 24 of my little friends over to get you to perform the gear swap. Would also make sense to bring trade goods. Naturally would download these, do the gear swap, then some, er, testing... Naturally would want rides in some of your vehicles. Could then link with other N Sound guys, maybe even get one of your cars out for some mild cruising. Possibly attn the host club night before show BBQ or something along those lines. Then overnight. Then do the show. Then return to FRYNTYR's to get the items heading back South.
Dave May 10th, 07, 3:56 AM Do they seperate you by year/bodystyle at this show?
If not, maybe we should all park in one general area?
Maybe loosely call ourselves the "TCNW chapter"

They do you by year unless you get there late and register.
RAMBO May 10th, 07, 1:42 PM Does everyone have their TC window stickers? If not, i have a big stack (7 years of registering, ya know) and i can bring em... nice to show the sites colors :-)
I believe one of the oregon club guys has a big Team Chevelle banner, they usually try and get pics with all the members in front. I'll bet this time we have a huge turnout.
i'm going to make a followup post over in the main cruise-in section incase anyone has missed the notes in our little corner here :-)
gotago May 10th, 07, 4:15 PM Does everyone have their TC window stickers?
Yep, and all my magnets too, plus my Team Chevelle hat! I think all of us need to get our Team Chevelle temp tattoos as well.
flink69SS May 10th, 07, 4:38 PM Ben- I'll take 1 if I may....
blumax72 May 10th, 07, 9:37 PM Is there a way to pre-register?
Dave May 10th, 07, 10:05 PM 17Again was the last Oregon guy who had the banner. I'll try to PM him later tonite.
RAMBO May 11th, 07, 1:07 AM Is there a way to pre-register?
Its really a pretty small show(50-100 cars), So no need to pre-register.
66SSFan May 11th, 07, 1:24 AM I would like to bring up my '66, but I still need a steering arm for the right front. Probably won't have one in time. The '70 is way to "rough" for any show but I might meet some of you for breakfast at the Buzz Inn.

They have a catagory and trophy for cars under construction. If it will make it, by all means bring it up and join us...
blumax72 May 11th, 07, 1:47 AM I took the cover off the malibu tonight and I cant get the smile off my face. It started right up (gotta love fuel stabilizer). I will tune it and give it new fluids this week. Cant wait to drive it!:hurray:

Did you guys win it last year?
Dave May 11th, 07, 7:55 PM Did you guys win it last year?
no, I haven't made it to the Smoket point show yet, this will be the first year for me. I have won "best under construction" two years in a row at the ACES NW/Yesterday's show though. :hurray:
I think I'm parking up on the Hill this year. It'd be kinda embarrasing to try to win it three years in a row.:D
mattiepschevelle May 12th, 07, 10:05 PM anybody going to make it to the monroe swap meet? is it worth it to go?
FRYNTYR May 13th, 07, 12:14 AM I'll be there. Every year some buddies gather for a guys-day-out which happens to be the Monroe swap meet and sit around burping, farting and bench racing. We have a booth and never care if we sell anything. As far as the wives know,,,,we try and they are happy. Bad thing is my vehicle is always fuller on the way home.
FRYNTYR May 13th, 07, 12:31 AM Oh ya, just picked up my 68 chevelle from getting the front and rear glass installed at 7:30. Looking sweet. I'll start putting the rest of the chrome on tomorrow.

Since my body guy forgot to send me the friday photo update, I have to get my muscle car fix anyway I can! Pics of your 68 would do nicely! ;)
FRYNTYR May 14th, 07, 12:34 AM try this location for pics of the 68. First 4 pics are from the last three days.

Nice Bu. It would look great sitting next to Old Blue :D
17Again May 14th, 07, 4:22 AM 17Again was the last Oregon guy who had the banner. I'll try to PM him later tonite.
Hey Dave, Yes I have the TC Banner. Unfortunately I will not be making the show. I'm coaching baseball this year and we have a tournament this same weekend. I will arrange to have the banner taken up there by Laren Srb. He will be driving either his two-tone 66 malibu or his garnett red 69 SS. I'm pretty sure he knows Ben. The main focus of the banner was to make it to as many NW shows as possible. If he brings it up and if you guys are planning on coming down for the Oregon show in July, I would suggest keeping it until July for all of your cruise-in get togethers. As of right now our county play-offs begin the same weekend as the Oregon show, so even that show is up in the air for me. I'll know more after the 4th of July. I'll also post back after I arrange the delivery through Laren.
BTW I had built a frame with 1" sch 40 PVC, but have since taken it apart and used it for other things, so you will need to either hang it up or build a new frame.

We need to set up a time, and place. I'll take care of the official photo's, and post them here in the Forum.
FRYNTYR May 14th, 07, 1:18 PM What is a "Welfare" Nova?
Welfare Nova: A budget build race car made up of mostly used parts. the only new stuff bought can be the safety equipment (belts, roll cage tubing, driveshaft loop, and the Yukon axles). Every thing else second hand.
I have Under $5000 listed as cost, it's actually under 4K. It'll go up into the 4-5K range this year with aditions to achieve the 9.90 range. :0

$5k for a 10 second car sounds pretty darn impressive!
Dave May 14th, 07, 5:45 PM Just got my policy from Hagerty all squared away, fully insured and ready for the show.
Hey Darryl, when they get you all liqoured up, I got a few more things I need. Those heads you sold me worked so good, I'm thinking I might need to get one of them superchargers you got laying around.
gotago May 14th, 07, 10:05 PM I'm thinking I might need to get one of them superchargers you got laying around.
He's got superchargers?!? I'm not bringing my car then, I'm bringing my CTD and my best barganing attitude.................
kettbo May 14th, 07, 10:58 PM About the only thing NOT in Darry's garage are Import Cars and Turbochargers!
Off to dig a stump up out of the back yard. One 30' Fir cut down SAT, one 39' Spruce got a nice haircut....
FRYNTYR May 15th, 07, 3:38 AM No worries, my 6-71 blown 427 is not at home right now and is where one of my 55's is getting some chassis work done in trade for machine work. The Work is taking much longer than it should so I'm going to bring the motor home in a few weeks so I can run it on my test stand or maybe through it in something to make sure everything is right before going back into the 55.
In the name of budget,,,,I have to fill you all in on this motor.
Short block consists of a set of slightly used .080 Wiseco blower pistons purchased off of Ebay for under $80 because who in their right mind would want .080 over? ME, when cheap!
Combined two short sets of 7/16 dimple rods, polished beams with ARPs that I had about $100 into. Managed to get 8 good ones out of the bunch.
Steel Crank was a .030-.030 fresh grind I bought for $75 because most people think .030 is unusable. Not for a BBC.
Pistons rings were palsma molley file fits rings for a Mopar 4.320 bore while mine was a 4.330 bore. The gaps were nearly perfect for a blower motor. Most rings I didn't have to touch for gaps but the few I did I only had to take .001-.002 off of. What luck.
Believe it or not, I actually went a mild cam and even bought it new. A hydraulic flat tappet grind that should have a lope but nothing wild. Wanted low maintainance, heck, it's got a 6-71 on it so no matter what it'll make power.
Heads are 990 castings with all used valves, but new springs, retainers and roller rockers ( I know, I know,,,,I splurged a little).
6-71 is an old Dyers Unit that uses a Offenhouser carberated intake converted to a blower intake by Dyers. Old school all the way.
Broke down again and bought new 725 road demon blower carbs, with linkage. God help me, I bought more parts new instead of second hand!
FRYNTYR May 15th, 07, 1:00 PM Well, I got the drip moldings on the 68. What a pain with a Vinyl top (George, notice spelling of vinyl). I dented up the driver's side top piece for the first foot and a half before I finally figured out a technique to get it on with out screwing it up. The passenger side looks much better. Now I need to get another drip molding for the driver's side, later though. :(
FRYNTYR May 15th, 07, 1:11 PM Hey guys, keep Sept. 8th on your radar too. It's the Arlington Drag strip reunion and has a pretty good turn out of cars and some great old school rods.
I drove my gasser straight axle 55 there last year. First time the car has been on the road in 30 plus years. Drove like crap,,,,,I loved it. :o
I was hoping to have my blown 55 back from my buddy but I doubt he'll have his part done so I'll be taking the straight axle car again.
They also have a street cruise on Friday night in downtown Arlington. Evening cruise just like the old days, back and forth down main street.
Dave May 15th, 07, 9:39 PM That sound's like a good time, might have to get there for that.
