If you are considering a single plane intake, I recently got off the dyno with my 540bbc. Trying 3 different intakes, comparing oranges to oranges, I made 24 more horsepower using the Edelbrock Super Victor CNC intake with a one inch spacer. If I would have spun the motor past 7000, it would have made more. Although this intake cost around $575, I'm happy I spent the extra coin! By the way, Wilson has his name on this intake too. Good Luck!
godsend Jun 14th, 04, 7:29 PM Should mention that this engine sits on the dyno right now and should shift intake tomorrow. So fast recomends are needed ;)
vigg Jun 14th, 04, 7:34 PM With the performer 2.0 it gave around 475hp/and 445lbs :-(..why soo little torque???
I´m thinking of using a performer rpm...or a victor jr ovalport..
I want it to pull well from 2-2500 rpm and i think the engine should give around 520hp and close to 500lbs torque??..dreams?
Is the (for example) victor jr or team G so bad under 3000rpm in reality?
Thanks for helping me! smile.gif
doggy69 Jun 14th, 04, 8:34 PM I have performer rpm 2-0 that was used for about 2 hrs for $100 if you are interested.

How much more can i expect from an Performer RPM?
(Thanks again!)
Bob West Jun 14th, 04, 9:20 PM Looks like the perfect candidate for the Performer Rpm Air Gap
GRN69CHV Jun 14th, 04, 9:34 PM Your torque is low because of the compression. The cam you have would work better with about 11.0/1. 10.0 will work, but the tq and power will come on later on in the powerband.
With a 10.0/1 408 motor, stay with a dual plane.
thrasher Jun 16th, 04, 4:22 AM Edelbrock RPM Air Gap
Weiand Stealth
427L88 Jun 16th, 04, 10:11 AM RPM/Stealth/GM1 #163 would be my choices here. Also, those 2" headers are a bit big even if you're pushing 7000.
vigg Jun 16th, 04, 4:55 PM Ended up with a Performer RPM.(With the performer it pulled around 440lbs/475hp.)
What improvement can i expect?
Will know in a couple of days..hold your thumbs! ;)
ddeennis Jun 16th, 04, 8:51 PM need to trash those headers............and get the smaller 1 3/4" or so........all the years of owning and building 396 bbc never once did i ever gain from 2" headers and in fact........i always lost mph and e.t. with my worse case of loosing 8 mph and 1 sec. because of the headers....with no other changes.........even when my 396 was running deep in the 11's they still didnt need them.......car went slower with the 2" headers........if your looking for torque you would have a bigger change with headers then the intake........try it.......you just might like it..........and i even turned my 396 motors to 7200 rpms.......didnt need them 2 " headers.........
vigg Jun 19th, 04, 1:54 PM Did dyno with 1.7/8".It ended at 507hp/5600..525lbs/4400.I´m pleased =)
Bob West Jun 20th, 04, 9:09 AM and you used the Air Gap intake? or plain RPM? for those final numbers?
edit: RPM...read the darn post Bob graemlins/clonk.gif
ddeennis Jun 20th, 04, 8:02 PM glade that things worked out.......what name brand of headers did you go with.......
