I want to recondition my underhood A/C hounsing. I tried searching but to no avail. I know originally they were just black gel coat but has anyone found the correct color or formula for the paint to restore it? Everything else is gonna be really nice and I want the box to look good too. Thanks!!

Dave

Forgot to mention it is a 70 SS Elcamino.

In the tech reference it says semi-gloss black. I want some contrast so I guess just put a little less flattening agent in the black.

I don't think they had any paint on them, just dark brown fiberglass.

What I did was scrub it down with soap and water and used a rattle can with semi flat clear. Stays clean and is not glossy. Still has the brown look. Bob

That was what my body guy suggested (I know he would have used a spray gun - but that's not an issue).

I decided to have wells, firewall and a/c box all painted body color. If I hadn't I'm sure that's what we would have done.

I have seen both the brown looking boxes and black gel coat ones. I wonder if it depended on where the car was produced? Spraying some matte clear on it is a great idea. I have several of those AC boxes I'll have to experiment a little. Thanks for the replies
