On a car with a open rear end, What side is it normal to break loose first? That is with both tires on ths same surface.
Thanks, Bob J.

I would think the right tire.

kind of a side comment here- i've got an open 10-bolt 3.08 rear (hopped up 283/glide), and a few times, i've thrown the car into reverse, stomped on the gas, and fried the tires backwards- leaving TWO black stripes.... i dont' get it.

You applied more power than the spider gears could handle spinning with reduced traction. Remember your weight transferred to the front when acceleratiing in reverse thus reducing the traction at the rear wheels. You were probably still turning at different rpms on each wheel.

And some times the reverse gear is steeper then first meaning that you could be applying more power in reverse than first.
