: Amplified / Sub Wiring....
ChaosEnvy Apr 15th, 07, 9:41 PM I have a Kenwood Exelon Head Unit. I have a seal box with 3 12" suns. 1 is passive. I only have two hooked up. They are hooked up to create a 2 ohm independence. I just purchased a mono amp Pioneer 7300M to replace the generic amp that I kept smoking.
I have power at the + and power on the remote line. The amp's power light comes on and off with the head unit. I have the speakers conencted to the amp, and I have a good set a monster cable RCA cables connected to the Non Fading 4.5V Pre-out from the head unit.
My Problem, I cannot get a squeak out of the amp.. not a sound from the subs. I took the amp back to the store and they put it on their test bench, and the amp worked fine.
I replaced the RCA cables just to be sure, and still nothing.
Any Ideas?
Thanks

onick Apr 15th, 07, 10:53 PM Make sure you aren't putting your RCA cables into an input on the back of the head unit. Also, are the subs wired correctly? Are you bridging them? Check to see if the wires from the subs to the connectors on the sealed box are good, check for shorts. Is there a Low and Hi Pass filter on the amp? Make sure its set to the low if it is.

I have three RCA Pre-out on my Deck, Front, Rear, and NF(non-fading). I am using the NF as it is for SUBs. The subs are wired for a MonoBlock amp, 2, 4ohm subs wired to 2ohms. The Wires from the subs are good(removed a sub to check) thay have ends on them and look good. Is is a mono-sub am so it doesn't have a low/hi filter. The amp only has a hertz adjustment, 40 - 240, I have it set at 80. I have the gain set to a little above normal, but have tried the whole range and couldn't get anything. I had a legacy 1000watt amp hooked up and until I fried the mosfets it worked fine. I had the amp repaired and again everything was fine. I got rid of that amp before I smoked the mosfets again, and bought this new one. Just don't get it. The only thing I can think of is if my head-unit isn't putting out a single in the RCA.
Please, more advice...

I tried all three pre-outs.. and nothing. Called a local shop here, that does work like Unique on the Speed channel. Anyhow he said to check the ohms of the speakers with a meter; apparantely my last amp may have screwed them up. I will check tonight and find out.
Other than that I haven't a clue. It has to be my RCA or the SUBS. I also tried wired inputs from the rear speaker with the supplied adaper and still nothing. It has got to be the subs.......I'll find out ....

BB_Mike Apr 16th, 07, 11:55 PM Did you enable that output of the head unit? If so, can you verify what it's "volume" level is. That may not be possible for a "non fading" output, but it's worth a look. It read like you used these same outputs with the last amp. If you think that amp blew up, you may be mistaken and your head unit is what stopped "putting out". ;)
Belay all that subwoofer impedance concern and just hook up a decent house speaker. turn the amp gain way down to 25% and get sound comming out.
2 Ohms, I think that Amp may require a large capacitor on the supply line, or you may see your headlights dimming while idling. just a thought. I run a 96 amp alternator that is only ~$75 from autzone. PM me if you want the part number.
docaudio Apr 20th, 07, 8:49 PM Here are some more things to try. Can you get the subs to move with a 9v battery across the wiring? Just tap it, and they should move in the same direction. I read the posts very quickly (I'm at work mixing) and I didn't see if you said you were getting signal to the full range speakers. Also doublecheck the amp 'enable' wire or whatever it may be called that mutes the amp until the head unit is powered up. If you have some headphones and a proper adapter cable, you should hear signal by connecting the phones to the sub outs - leave the engine off - the signal might be pretty low.
LASTLY - Have you, maybe, by chance, glanced at the owners manuals?

ChaosEnvy Apr 21st, 07, 2:49 PM Not Totally sure what the problem was, but it is resolved now. I took the amp back and purchased a new amp and a new box and subs. All is well in the world now. The box I had was huge, had 3 12's in it. I now have a smaller box with 2 12's and a better amp. I did find one of my old subs wasn't working, but that should have been the problem. I believe it was a combination of the mono amp and the old subs. I am replacing the subs with new ones and putting this box in my Suburban. In anycase thanks for the help.
