: short video
Purs Aug 3rd, 04, 12:27 PM a friend ;) took some video with his new 454. I think he said it hit 90-95 at the top of 2nd gear... Any guesses on the 1/8 mile times?
video clip (http://admin.esc14.net/webs/bpursley/upload/shakedown_0001.wmv)
It should play in Windows Media Player.
thunderstruck507 Aug 3rd, 04, 12:32 PM Niiiice
Kinda makes ya want to say "Skrew fuel, I'm ditching the smallblock"
427L88 Aug 3rd, 04, 1:10 PM And that's a mellow rat!
thunderstruck507 Aug 3rd, 04, 1:55 PM I'm hitting third gear at 70 with 3.08 and it in drive
Before the gear swap it had 2.73 & shifted at 80, I bet the speedo was at least 5 off
We ran my dads 468 big block setup he has in his 80 chevy 4x4 through desktop dyno and got 450 hp and 490 ft/lbs...his setup is pretty mild too, cam is only 270 and carb is 650 double pumper
Hot66ss Aug 3rd, 04, 2:24 PM Thanks I needed that, a little incentive to get off my butt and go finsih up some stuff on the chevelle
no 1/8 mile predictions?
427L88, was that a compliment, observation, or insult? :D
Lonnie67 Aug 3rd, 04, 7:50 PM 7.9
Purs Aug 3rd, 04, 11:05 PM thanks Lonnie! anyone else?
Bomber '67 Aug 3rd, 04, 11:37 PM 8.2 to 8.3
Video was hard to read tachometer. Looked like he had the dial set at 6,000 - but it looked like the shift light came on before then and that he was shifting before 6,000 rpm.
How tall are his tires, and has he had the speedometer accuracy checked? With an average 28" tall tire (275/60-15) he would need about 6,000 rpm to get 90 mph in second.
Post back when he does run.
Thomas
Purs Aug 3rd, 04, 11:47 PM Bomber, thanks for the guess.
I know the tire's are 28" tall. He was shifting around 5700 RPM's and yes the shift light comes on too soon. I know he's tried several different pills (up to 6800) with not much change in the light....
I'll make my guess.... 7.75 @ 92mph
Bomber '67 Aug 4th, 04, 11:14 PM Well, 5,700 rpm in the top of second with 28" tires and 3.73 gears = ~ 86 mph. Since it is not unusual for an older speedometer to read high I'm not suprised that he saw 90-95 on his speedometer.
I'll add to my prediction that his 1/8 mile speed will be ~ 86 mph. When is he going to run? I hope you post the results, incrementals included.

I shift out of first at 80mph. 2.73s and 29" tires. just in case anyone is wondering ;)
thunderstruck507 Aug 5th, 04, 5:49 PM mines mild 355, 350 auto w/shift (hits 2nd too hard...previous owner was nuts) :D
I was talking about in drive...
Not exactly a killer combo, but it cruises my arse to school at 18 mpg and up, so until I'm putting 6 cylinders or less in some other vehicle on the highway I have to settle graemlins/angry.gif
one day...one day...
427L88 Aug 5th, 04, 9:58 PM An observation, and a compliment to him, and all rats, and never an insult...
just commenting on how the rat gets up and hauls with no big fanfare, easy rpm shifts, and simply gets it done...
Purs Aug 5th, 04, 11:12 PM 427L88, that was well said, like most of your posts. I'll post back when it makes it to the strip.
ratrace Aug 6th, 04, 7:42 AM videos like that make me jealous. I've owned my 67 for 6 yrs now and it's spent about 5 1/2 of it in the garage. 15k$ later and it's still sitting there. I'm telling all my friends it'll be ready for it's 40th anniversary. Has anything been done to the rear suspension on that car or is it just the slicks that are letting hook like that?
chvyhs Aug 6th, 04, 2:15 PM That was sweettttttttttttttttt. graemlins/beers.gif I'm going to go order some more of the parts I need to finish mine now.
MadMarv Aug 6th, 04, 10:10 PM Nice vid. Now if someone can point to a road where you can pull that sorta stunt near me I'd be there!
Its sheer hell around here trying to find a road like that...
Do you know how he mounted the camera? Does he have a roll bar or something? I wanted to take an in-car vid for TC but I couldn't figure out how to mount the camera?

Matt tripod and duct tape??????????
MadMarv Aug 7th, 04, 8:14 AM I don't think that would do the trick, I can imagine the tripod flipping over.
I was trying to find an angle that would get a shot of the big tach (drivers side left dash), speedo, and road.
I was playing with rope and bungee cords and whatever else, but..
It never occured to me but I am going out on the highway today (only place with big enough roads) to do some testing to the governor, I think I will just hold the camera and have someone else drive. That would only bring 0-80(something), but it is still fun.
If I could find a parking lot I didn't think the cops would be at, I'd do a nice smokeshow as well, I don't really have alot of care for my 26*10.5ET streets, they are a few years old and the wrong size..
Other than than the tripod idea, any other suggestions?
Matt
ratrace Aug 8th, 04, 9:36 AM you hold the camera while someone else drives? who drives your car better than you? although i trust all my friends stuff like that wouldn't fly in my book. If anyone is going to be dumping the clutch at 5000 rmp in my car it's going to be me and only me. have your buddy hold the camera while you drive. that way if something breaks you only have yourself to blame. as far as roads in mass go, i'm not sure what part of mass your in but rte 2 is right iin my back yard go out early sat or sun morning and you'll have it to yourself. thats where i do my motorcycle speed runs. I've tripled the speed limit there and have yet to run into a cop.
bubbamura Aug 8th, 04, 9:45 PM Love the video, love the sound track even more. So do my neighbors at 10pm when I crank up the volume on my surround-sound! All it really needs is for the road to be about 2mi longer and 8 or 9 more gears to shift thru! Way cool!

it's wedged so it can't tip backwards. works pretty well.
Eric68 Aug 9th, 04, 5:45 PM Hey that's pretty good Purs -- you should be able to see your gauges and the track from that spot.
I'm working at a setup that will allow me to bolt my digital camera to my rear view mirror bracket on my Camaro . . . that should be kind of cool. Kind of like being in the drivers seat I hope.
