I think I'm going tomorrow to get my exhaust system put on. It's got 1 5/8in headers. I'm going to put on a 2.5in X-pipe, Hooker Aero Chambers, then the chrome exhaust tips for the '70-'72 SS. Performance-wise, does location of muffler matter? What about soundwise? I'm just curious, though I'm sure the muffler shop would know. Thanks.

It's as far to the rear as you can get them.

Do research on muffler shops!
Some will use compression bends and create restrictions.

Did you get the intake and carb set up? Hows it running now? By the way, you'll love the aerochambers...IMO one of the best sounding mufflers out there graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I got the intake cleaned up easily and painted and it looks like a champ. My grandpa (who made his living rebuilding carbs and engines) came to look at my carb job. He recommended I remove the throttle shaft and make sure its completely good to go (it was stuck when I first got it, and it moves okay now, but wan't to be safe). We also both noticed at the same time that the power piston has a bent 'arm', causing one of the rods to be higher, and when it springs up, the rod won't stay in the jet. Not good, so I decided to take my time on this, replace that part, make sure everything is right, etc. It is only my first time to rebuild a carb after all. I'm not going to be in town this weekend so it'll have to wait until the next...I'll let you know though!
