Yesterday, for the first time in over 10 years, (and the first time since I acquired it), the Grandpa Malibu moved under its own power. I was amazed that after re-plumbing virtually everything that had to do with fluids, there wasn’t a single leak. A check of the electricals found that everything works except the radio (doesn’t even light up); even the sick cow buzzer for when you leave the keys in it. Per my original mission statement, I have managed to keep it as stock as possible. Many thanks to Tony at Restorationpartssouce.com for getting many of the parts, Mark for some blasting on the valve covers and to Dennis for the carb rebuild that I “helped” with. We will be going on a short shakedown cruise later today.

Tasks Completed:
New gas tank
New gas tank pick-up/sending unit
New fuel pump
New hard line from fuel pump to carb
Replace all rubber fuel lines
Replace all radiator/heater hoses (correct hoses and clamps)
New Battery cables (correct)
Rebuild carb
New Cap, rotor, points and wires (all correct)
New Plugs
Timing and Dwell set
Paint block and brackets
Rebuild Master cylinder
Rebuild Brake Power booster
Replaced all fluids.

Tasks remaining:
Bleed Brakes
Check/replace Dif fluid level
Tune Carb
Replace 4th headlight with correct T3 light (have it)
Transmission service (leaks like a $10 row boat)
Fix 2 rust holes below back window
Re-upholster front seat bottom (Have NOS cloth)
Dye and install seat belt retractor covers
New trunk seal
Repaint power steering pump, possibly replace hoses
New spare tire (has an original Poly-glas in there now)
Wax it
Drive, Drive, drive

Hand that task remaining list to your wife, and tell her you're going fishing.

Yeah, can hear her response now, "Just keep on goin."

The shake down cruise went well. Do have a bit of a vibration around 60 so will have to have the kid check the balance on the tires. Love that smooth Amercan Car cruise otherwise. Quite a bit less "feedback" than the lowered 'Maro, not to mention way more room. Gonna have to get that radio fixed or replaced cuz my singing really sux. Having 5 belt buckles in the front seat slays me.

Wait, you've got the incorrect.... er, forget it :D

Seriously, things are shaping up nicely. You are going about it systematically and doing it right. Going for a cruise in it will put a smile on your face every time. Just remember to figure out which seatbelt buckle goes where ;) and you're good to go!

Just love the "Bed of Snakes" there in the middle of the bench.

I have been driving to work the last couple of days. It is my intent to use this as my daily driver as the 'Maro is my garage queen.

Gonna take GM to the Dream Machine show in Half Moon Bay this Sunday. May have to put a coat of that vintage Turtle Wax on it. Because us old folks know "nothin can crack the turtles back...."
