How would i go about putting a brand new Kenwood or newer type head units in my chevelle where the original went? Are there any kits?

Good luck. You can buy a few radios that will fit but not many and they are pricey. You may want to consider mounting it someplace else and not cutting up your dash. Anything with a cd player will be too big.

Depends On how you feel about your dash. In my 69 I just cut the opening and mounted it with the Head unit's sleeve. Just pushed back the tabs to hold it in place, and then attached some rod to the back to make it nice and stable.

otherwise you can install it anywhere. Glove Box, if you have a remote and a changer. Or you can make a nice box and mount it under the dash area. If you have a console you can install it there.....

Oh ok, I'm probably going to find a way to mount it vertically flush with the center counsole. Do you think i should just leave the original radio in, but make it non working?

Edit: Actually thinking about it, it would be really hard to see the display while driving, so i guess ill mount it under the dash??? Give me your opinion.

You can still find the old shaft style radios around that will go right in the dash, some have CD changer controllers, so you can stick a changer somewhere. Some people also have success mounting the head unit inside the glove box, still fairly accessible. Or you can get the box to mount it under the dash.

All depends on what kind of look your going for, cutting the dash is an option, but the least desirable in my opinion since once it's cut, you can never return it to the stock look.

Does anyone have any pics of their head unit mounted under the dash?
