I'm looking to find the place where I can buy the correct AC system for a 70 BB car. Does anyone know who sells these systems complete? Thanks in advance for any info.

Are you wanting to buy everything? Starting with the 3 groove crank pulley to the dash controls. Thats a LOTTA stuff. Under hood stuff could get pricey. Condenser and brackets, --Hoses, --BB. Compressor Brackets,-- Rt. Frt. fender hose brkt.--Metal can or plastic ball type, Vac. storage container--70 -A/C Wiring harness--Electrical Componants for Evap. container--4-core Rad and Eaton clutch, 3947772 fan blade. I would guess a " 738 " style compressor with a 5" pulley. Intake manifold vacuum port. A lot of pieces and parts to make it operate. If is now an A/C car half of job is done. If it is not an A/C car " WOW " !!!!

Thanks for the reply Bob. It is an AC car now but it's missing the underhood parts. I'm looking for a place if it even exists that I can buy the pieces I need to make the system work again. I'm looking for a factory correct system as opposed to a vintage air set up.

Keep your eyes peeled on craigslist and check the local junk yards for any 70-72 chevelle or el-camino with A/C getting parted out. I found a 72 Small Block El Camino at a wrecker in San Jose through craigslist and he pulled the entire system from front to back, nuts, bolts, brackets etc for $500. I already had A/C on my 70 SS454 LS5 chevelle, but most of the underhood parts were missing also. It was nice to have some of those extra dash parts as some of my under dash components were not functioning perfectly.

The only difference I found with the system from the SB was the brackets for the compressor are different and the dash controls were white (but I didn't need that part). I couldn't find anyone making aftermarket brackets, and the 70 LS5 had special compressor brackets. Start looking for those now, they could end up costing you a couple hundred bucks. Search the old posts in the a/c section here and you can find the part numbers. I found them on ebay eventually.

But it was worth it because I found a guy to recharge it with r-12 and it works better than any A/C on any other car I can remember.

pm me if you have any other qustions.

Find a donor car, thats you best bet. Everyone else is going to want a lot of money for the parts as they are not easy to come by and more buyers than sellers.

Finding a shop that will recharge an old system is going to be the challenge. They don't do it cheap, very expensive and they will insist you buy new parts.

Thanks for the input guys, I found someone who has the compressor brackets from a 73 454 Suburban as a start, does anyone know if they will work and look correct on a 70?

Don't know how factory correct you want to be, so they may work, but not be "correct". The main bracket that is "correct" and the hardest to find is this one:

Mike here is what a correct set will look like. Their is 5 brackets total in the picture one of the brackets is still bolted together.
The bracket at the top of picture is a bumper bracket.
