Title says it all - bought a used MSD 6AL and was wondering if it was possible to test it before installing.

also, while I have your undivided attention... ;)

Is it worth wiring it in such a way that I can convert quickly back to normal? For example, if I happen to have one that goes bad for whatever reason, and don't want to get stuck somewhere - can I wire it up so I can flip a switch and be back to normal?

Thanks for any info you guys can provide-

Yes you can, see instuctions http://www.msdignition.com/pdf/6%20series/6series.pdf

Thanks for any info you guys can provide- This would be difficult to do and it would require a lot more than one switch, depending what you would be going back to. It would be easier to wire in two 6al's so if one went bad you could switch to the other. I have diagrams to show how its done.

Thanks, Greg!

Link no work - I found the instructions for testing it once installed, but not before installation...

TWO 6AL's? Interesting - a more expensive solution but quite workable.

Lets say you go through with mounting and wiring it, and it doesn't work.......most likely you will get another one that does work. Just hope it does work for ya>>>.how much did you drop for a used one anyway? If you have an HEI, you might be able to keep the wires and module for the HEI in your glove box. You will have to run the hot wire back to the dist. though. I have an MSD billet dist., so I would be SOL unless I do what was stated above with a second box.

LOL, don't remember what I paid for it now... I think it was like 1/2 price or so, got it from the classified's here.

Maybe I could keep a connection for the hot wire capped near the distributor, & tap into it if needed....

It would take a little more than that. Say for a HEI, keep the module in the car, make all the wiring with quick disconnects so it can be put back quickly.
