: What is your ET?
Pat Kelley Jul 14th, 04, 1:19 AM What ET's are you running? My best is 11.67. You can go with best or what you usually run, your choice. If you only have 1/8 mile times you can use this nifty 1/8 to 1/4 mile chart (http://cochise.uia.net/pkelley2/eight-to-quarter.htm) to get an approximate time.
Please vote in the poll so we can see the results.

Pat Kelley Jul 15th, 04, 1:22 AM Thanks for all the votes. Very informative. It seems there are a bunch of 13 and 14 seconds cars. Quite a few 12 sec cars and a fairly large number of 10 second cars. The number of 9 second or better cars is surprising.
What I am most curious about is the number of 11 second cars. It seemed that there are not too many on this board, and the poll, so far, confirms this. I'm a bit surprised by this since going into the tens requires several equipment upgrades (SFI damper, trans blanket or scatter shield, cage if the firewall is modified). (Not to mention the chassis and engine work required to get there.) Going from the 12's to the 11's is, pretty much, a roll bar only thing. But, of course, that is the most radical safety equipment addition needed on the way to the tens.
Thanks again for responding to the poll and those who haven't yet voted, please do so.

Bomber '67 Jul 18th, 04, 12:11 AM Pat, I like that conversion chart because on paper it gives me a 10.9x 1/4 mile e.t. :D With only a half dozen passes on the new engine I'm sure to whittle that down as I test and tune. Hmmm...I wonder how to calculate what the e.t. reduction would be given a certain amount of N2O?

Pat Kelley Jul 18th, 04, 1:09 AM Thomas, If that's not to your liking you can use NHRA's 1.6 factor for an 11.246 smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif . The 1.56 factor was on the chart when I found it, although it does match up perfectly with my 1/8 and 1/4 mile runs. Dave (blue Olds) uses 1.58 since that matches up better with his passes.
Kind of a surprise to me but the high 11's is the smallest group.
Wooderson Jul 18th, 04, 1:16 AM OK Pat, since the poll is still open smile.gif 11.95 @ 113, 1.70 60' with 4.10 gears, slicks, and open headers. 12.82 @ 104 1.90 60' with 3.31 gears, drag radials, 2.5" exhaust pipe into Summit "turbo" mufflers and about 20 foot of wheelspin. :D
Bob West Jul 18th, 04, 1:29 AM Me thinks the quicker cars are not chevelles...some may be,,,but there arent that many chevelles from this board running quicker than 11.50  Jake went back thru my transmission today,,,3rd gear clutches cooked,2nd gear clutches cooking,,,will be back at the track, next race in two weeks graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Pat Kelley Jul 18th, 04, 1:38 AM Too bad about your trans, Robert. Was it a 350 or 400?
At my local strip there are several Chevelles running in the 6's (1/8 mile). That should put them in the 10's. One is a 4 speed 64 that runs low 6's. Which means he's nearly in the 9's. But you're right, Chevelles are pretty heavy and getting 10's is a pretty good trick.
Bob West Jul 18th, 04, 1:46 AM It is a 400....made the switch last november, go figure??? the 350 lasts for 4.5 years,,,got 80-90 passes on the 400 and cook the clutches...nothing else hurt..it was fine inside.
Pat Kelley Jul 18th, 04, 2:04 AM Wow, I thought the 400 was the tuff one. Did you read Jake's post (http://www.chevelles.com/forum/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=28;t=005502;p=2) in the trans forum? I found out I was doing some things incorrectly.
Bob West Jul 18th, 04, 2:38 AM Even though I do it wrong or have done it wrong in the past,,,,the sprag and band was fine in mine today...I will try going to 3rd now before I let it go,,,just to protect parts.

http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p184/fast1971chevelle/launch1.jpg Curiousity got the best of me. Your car is really flying for a 383" small block. What did it run at the eighth mile pole? Do you have any more incremental times, (60', 330' etc.) That's a really good looking Chevelle. By the way, some of the conversion disc brakes from Wilwood can take a little weight off as well as stop the car better and a parachute is real helpful in slowing a fast car quickly. They make a couple of different kinds of pads if you get four wheel discs.

That's what happens when you drag up a thread that's been dead over 2 1/2 years. It would be interesting to start a new poll, then compare the firgures.
I'm curious how the average E.T.'s and speeds would match up. I'd have to believe that the same pollsters would fair as much as half a second better now, but it would be laborsome to weed out those that aren't available to post their current numbers, as well as, new respondants.

blue66 Nov 28th, 07, 10:30 PM how does deep staging give you a tenth faster.? i never herd that so i am just asking.
It doesn't,..... it will actually show a slower et.
Basically your using the extra couple of inches when you shallow stage
to get a running head start. This is the amount of travel from when the bottom yellow flickers on to the distance you can roll ahead before the top turns back off. There;s a few inches in here. This is why it's important to stage consistantly when bracket racing.....It will affect your ET.

Was a street driven car but not all that fun to drive on the street. My current ride has'nt made a pass down a track since I purchased it. Just got it running this October. Hope to make some passes this next year. Best guess is mid to low 11's. 600HP or so in a 3800 lb 1970 chevelle. Hope to tweak it down into the 10's
MM Racing Dec 25th, 07, 12:20 AM Man that post was old... update. 10.19 @ 132.69 in a 3400 lb lead sled
10.29 @ 131... spec's in the signature. :)
kurt454 Dec 25th, 07, 9:55 AM Best ever ET with a different combination, in my Nova, was a 1.39 60ft...6.48 @ 104.3 mph. No quarter mile tracks around me.
Chief fat nutz Dec 25th, 07, 2:53 PM GEEEEZZZ! Lots of 10.0-11.0 guys on the forum. Thats cool, thats a ET thats streetable but yet fast on any corner of the world. I don't mean anyone 9.99 and faster can't be streetable but the 10sec class is a big portion.
vigg Dec 25th, 07, 7:51 PM See signature.
crockett70SS Dec 27th, 07, 11:40 PM It doesn't,..... it will actually show a slower et.
Just be carefull not to turn that top bulb off. Staging that deep does give you some-what of a head start but, also will cause you to go RED if you have a quick reacting car. You take away any cushing you have between the yellows.
Chris27 Dec 28th, 07, 9:59 AM Another vote for the 11.50-11.99.

MonteCarloMark Jan 25th, 08, 10:40 PM Well if the calulator is right I should run 12.30's
I don't know though my car 60 ft are great doesn't seem like there is a lot of power in the upper RPM. Symptom of fairly lage displacement and small heads. 408 sbc w/Vortec heads.

FRYNTYR Sep 27th, 08, 11:54 AM 10.62 is my best(ran in 1990) in my 69 chevelle that I've had since I was 14. It's retired to only street duty now and has a Fun-factor muncie, like I ran before I got crazy into dragging it, back in place for gear banging burnouts.
My present toy is the Low-buck, WN (welfare nova) that has ran 9.96 @ 131 with a best foot brake of 1.40. This is with a little hyper piston, stock rodded, 355 motor and a 150 shot of squeeze. Hoping to top this ET OCT 3 as I finally dumped a roller cammed, 12 1/2-1 468 with merlin rec port heads in it and should run low-low 10's on motor and I'm hoping for 9.60's on a 150 shot, it I can get it to hook on the 10.5" Hoosier QTP's.
Quickest time for me driving was a couple months ago in my buddy's 69 chevelle. Punched a head gasket out on #2, 100 ft out, and still ran a 9.22 @ 151 MPH. Can't wait to have an oppertunity to run that thing on all 8 cylinders. SHould be 8's.

henpecked Sep 27th, 08, 11:38 PM I'm an old bracket racer that's had several cars..
Fastest (in a Racecraft Dragster/540)= 4.84 @ 141 (1/8th) (converts to 7.70ish 1/4) , 1.04-1.06 60' normally.
Fastest in a door car (69 camaro s/g car, off the stop, 406/glide)= 5.81@ cant remember MPH, 1.22-1.25 60' normally (1/8th mile)
Fastest real street car ('69 Chevelle, 406/glide) 11.78@ cant remember (1/4), on old McCreary street tires (remember those?lol)
Current car..1969 Chevelle..building a basic 468/th400 driver, hoping for some 11.80s..
Philip Sep 28th, 08, 1:31 AM In the El Camino 15.3 with the AC running, hey it was hot that day :)
The TPI motor is basicly stock and only has 230 horsepower, Elky weighed 4180 on the scale at the track. Hopefully the Nova will be in the low 12's.
