Gentlemen

A few weeks ago I posted about my hood moving around too much while I was driving and COL Eikmeier gave me some tips on adusting the latch and the posts. Well I adjusted the latch and that seemed to get rid of the front movement and also better align the hood, but there is still alot of movement in the rear of the hood. Is this the hindges and the springs? I was looking at another post (http://www.chevelles.com/forum/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=3;t=003887#000001) and saw that another person had the same problem. Just thought I would add that post in case anyone needs to find some hinges.

Also the trunk seems to need more of a slam to get it to shut. The hinges seem to be lubed ok so Im thinking its somewhere in the latch. How can this be adjusted?

Thanks

Nicholas

I do have the two rubber bumpers in place on the left, right, and the middle of the hood edges

You can adjust the trunk lid two methods. You can move the latch(on the lid) and the striker mounted onto the body. Both have 1/2 bolts. The latch doesnt have much play in it so it should be left for fine tuning, so the major adjustment comes from moving the striker on the body.

The first thing I would do is remove that striker by removing all 3 bolts and striker will drop out. Doing this will allow you to know if the lid fits right or not. If not, NOW you need to make any adjustments as you DONT WANT striker installed as that will give you false reading on how it fits as it can throw the lid off to one side or the other.

If the lid fits now install striker back on car and strat from the beginning spots, you should be able to tell by paint marks left behind on the striker mount. Very slowly close lid and WATCH and see how the latch contacts the striker it should hit it squarly. Adjust the striker so the latch hits it square. By not hitting it square it can cause the lid to close hard and make the lid "JUMP" to one side. Now that the lid makes contact with the striker square you need to adjust the height. Lowering the striker toward the trunk floor will lower the lid and also make it hard to close once it contacts the seal and the two rubber pads on each side. Raising the striker will do the opposite.

You might want to check the latch and see if it full of dirt and crap. Clean it well with some parts cleaner and then lube with WHITE LITHUIM grease as this wont attract dirt like wd40 will and is a great lube

If your hood is shaking back and forth, you probably need new rubber spacers on the fenders, or they are missing. There should be 4 of them and their job is to stabalize the hood.
Check out Ground Up for the stuff.

SS Dave

I have four rubber bumpers that I can see. There are two on the posts near the radiator, and two on the left and right fenders, about in the middle of the hood. Thats all right? How would I know if the hinges were bad?

Thanks
