Looks like I have to remove the fender "extension" to change the lens/bezel. Is this correct? And if so, is there a paint gasket for the extension? Looks like no gasket was used in the assembly and paint is in the seam.

You don't have to remove the entire extension to remove the bezel & lens. Look closer with good light and you'll see the speed nuts. 7/16" deepwell socket should do it.

Thanks Jimmy, I'll look again. I found 4 speed nuts but they appeared to hold the extension. I'll see if I can find the others for the bezel.

I had to remove mine and did not realize it until I had painted the car. There is a gasket on the market but it fits down inside and will not help to avoid the paint bridging. I ended up cutting the bridged areas with a fine razor and removing the housing to install the lenses. I am still kicking myself over that one.

Yeah Butch, I think I'm in the same boat. Seems the painter assembled then painted. Funny, the rest of the car was COMPLETELY apart and on benches. The bezels need some smoothing and rechrome. Live and learn, I guess. Thinking that after the "repair" I might get away with dobbing clear in the seam. Its BC/CC paint.

OK, here's the deal, for anyone who cares to know. You do have to take off the quarter panel "extension" to remove the tail light bezel or lens. They are held by 4 screws located deep down in the assembly. You remove the 4 - 7/16" speed nuts, push out the assembly and then on a bench, remove the 4 - 1/4X20 screws holding the bezel. There is a rubber gasket between the extension and quarter panel, but it doesn't show from the outside. And yes, it screws up your nice paint, if the painter left them on while painting.
