I did a search and could not come up with an answer to this...

On a Chevelle with an externally regulated alternator, where the voltage regulator is mounted to the core support behind the headlights, should the regulator be directly bolted/screwed to the core support, or should the rubber shrouded mounts be used? (I believe they are called well nuts).
Mine is mounted directly to the core support with sheet metal screws and all is working well. Is this a problem waiting to happen? What is the skinny on well nuts?

They really should be used to help with vibration elimination but it does need to be grounded.

The external voltage regulator mounting kit is available from the parts vendors including GU.
I'm sure GM designed the V/R mount system this way for a reason, one of which is vibration isolation.

If I mount the regulator using the well nuts, does that not eliminate the ground? Or is the unit grounded some other way?
