I was wondering if anyone could let me know of a site or how to take off the rear quarters on a 70 SS396. I can see where the top joins and the join behind the rear window. If anyone has any help please let me know.
Thanks

You'll want to locate all the seam spotwelds and drill them out.
It's a big job !

xxx212xxx, you have jumped in here with a question that is possibly a step ahead. If you have to ask the question, maybe we need to know a few things.
1. Why are you replacing the quarter panels?
2. Do you have new quarters now?
3. Are they full quarters or partials?
We can point you to ever single thing needed to get the job done, but I have to wonder if this is the best thing to do.

First dont remove the old quarter until you have a new replacment quarter sitting next to you. If you remove it chances are you will remove to much or damgae something that you didnt know was there.
What kind of damage and where is it that makes you believe that it needs a quarter? Replacing a quarter is not that tough but tough enough for someone that has no idea on what it takes and the steps that need to be followed.
Ive installed both NOS quarters and the Goodmarks on 70 chevelles and along with a pair of partials on a 68 buick skylark. Never again would I install a pair of partials were I had the choice of full or partials, like you have with a 70 chevelle.
Partials are a pain to fit and require so much extra time and patience, and in the long run they are more expensive to install then a full. So basically dont buy partial quarters.
Also I really like the goodmark quarters no complaits coming from my mouth. When I installed the goodmarks I checked all the lines and the overall fit and finish, then removed them and hung a extra pair of NOS quarters that I have and recieved the same quality of fit and finish. The goodmarks are of equal quality in my mind as NOS quarters so why pay the extra cost of NOS.
Iam just like Martinsr I wont give advice on removing that quarter until you explain more...Eric

im thinking that i might have to replace my quarter panels, i have extensive rust around both wheel wells and major damage from two acciedents on the left ones ( you can see in my pics) also on the right one around the wheel well i can pull off chunks of some bondo that was used to cover up rust, i will take some picture tomorrow and post them on my webshot album. i will only want to go with goodmark or nos (side note: i hear goodmarks new gm certified panels for the 69 will be available in october, has any one heard different?)
what is the steps need to do to replace the panels? (if that indeed is the way i need to go?)
i have heard there is about 178 spot welds per side and those need to be drilled out but what about cutting the sail and also installing a new one? is mig the recomended way to go? and mig for the sail also?
thanks in advance, i value all your imput...
