Question about the rocker panel molding for a 70 Malibu. Is the OEM trim stainless steel or aluminum? Got some on ebay last week and when I got them, ugh, there aluminum. I knew that they needed polishing and assumed that they would be ss. Polishing ss is easy and rewarding, polishing aluminum is not so nice, to put it nicely.
Thanks for the help....

yes they are anodized aluminum which isn't very repair friendly. There are a few products available for reomoving the anodized coating making the bare aluminum repairable but I haven't tried any of them. My brother in-law had the anodized coating removed from his 66 chevy 2 headlight bezels awhile back and then they were straightened and buffed to a polished finish, they look sweet! Much better than the anodized look.

Thanks. I just guessed wrong on them being stainless. I didn't have any in hand to see what material they were prior to recieving the ebay ones.
I have actually deanodized some aluminum trim and then polished it Recently. It does look good when done, but its just a pain compared to just polishing stainless. With the aluminum You obviously don't have the protection from the elements without the anodizing either.
