FASTDMAX Apr 11th, 07, 12:30 AM Hey Guys I Am New Here, I Just Found My Chevelle That I Sold 10 Years Ago, And Now I Am Re Doing It All, Any Way I Going To Put 20" Wheels On It If I Can. I Am Going To Order A Chris Alsten Fab9 Rearend For It My ? Is How Much Should I Shorten It (if Any) To Fit A 20x10 With A 5in OR 5.5 Backspace, And In The Front I Want A 20x8 Or 8.5 What Backspacing Do You Think I Will Need Up There. Thanks Your All The Help
animal69 Apr 11th, 07, 10:25 AM WHY? And turn off the caps lock.
FASTDMAX Apr 11th, 07, 2:10 PM why what?
sick65 Apr 11th, 07, 2:30 PM You really shouldn't have to narrow the rear axle. You will however have to mini-tub the wheel housings to accommodate wheels.
I'm running the stock rear-end, with 20x9.5 wheels 4.5 backspacing. The fronts are 18x7 with a 4.0 backspacing. If you plan to lower the car, good luck putting a 20x8.5 on the front.
FASTDMAX Apr 11th, 07, 3:33 PM thanks for the info your car looks great do u have the ride tech(air ride) on that

Yep. Ride Tech is the only way to go.
SoCal Bryan Apr 11th, 07, 10:27 PM I don't think 20's look right on a Chevelle. If you want that gangster look, go get yourself an Impala.
onick Apr 11th, 07, 10:36 PM its your car, do what you want with it.

Dude your car looks awesome! I just put 18" on my 64 and I have to say it changes the whole look of the car. I'm running Air Ride on the front of mine (it's back havled with coil overs in the back) .. I've got a couple of shots with the new wheels on it here

I know a lot of people don't like the "big wheel" trend that happening now, but to each his own i say

I can assure you that I'm the furthest thing from a gangster.

its hardly a trend, been around for 7 years now, its just more visually pleasing to the eye. i had 20" rims on my 82 Monte carlo in 2001.

Whoa, now hold on there little fella. I take exception to that comment.
I'm much closer to geek than gansta, and I'm pushing my comfort zone, thinking that I'm being bold, by ordering a set of 17" wheels for my Impala.

65ChevelleMalibuSS Apr 13th, 07, 1:43 AM Hey, I didnt catch the guys name with the Red 65 with the 20"s in the rear, but that car looks great, me and my dad are restoring a 65 Malibu SS, I was trying to find the largest and widest wheels I could put on it without doing to much cutting, We put the Hotchkis 1" lowering springs on it, right now we only having the frame complete, but without any weight on it the frame seems to sit to high, its almost 20" from the top of the frame to the ground in the front,. I would really like to get close to the look of your car, without the air bags, so I dont know how thats going to work out without cutting the springs. I was curious of how wide your fron and rear wheels are, and the tire size on them both, and the backspacing, if you could help me out there I would appriciate it greatly.

The rear wheels are 20x9.5 (4.5 back spacing) and fronts are 18x7 (4.0 backspacing). I cannot remember the tire size right now. Will get back to you on that. The only cutting I had to do was widen the inner wheel tubs. A 1" lowered spring is not going to lower it all that much. I would probably decide what wheels and tires you are going to run, then adjust your suspension to the desired stance.
