: I Really Feel For You Guys

The ones who have Rust Belt or East/ Northeast cars I mean.

I disassembled the front suspension on the Cali Native Chevello tonight. It took me a little over 2 hours from walking in the garage to wiping off the last tool. Hand tools only, no compressor. I'm not even really tired. I couldn't believe how easily it came apart.

After having a few cars that grew up around here and working on a couple of others that did, I have really gained an appreciation for what guys that get cars from around here have to go through. I forgot how little rust there can be on a car that is over 40 years ols (although it only spent 33 of them on the road) when it doesn't get salted and wet all the time.

Hats off to you guys that have restored cars from Rust Belt areas. You did a lot more work, most of you, than I will have to.

And oh yeah. I'm braggin' too :P neener neener neener :P Awww man, I'm gonna have to wash these control arms with SOAP so I don't get all dirty! Sand blast them? Why? It would take all the RARE NOS Original paint off. :D:D:D
I keed. I'll probably use Easy off...

They have a completely different definition for "clean" out here. What is means here is "rust falls out the bottom when I slam the door because there isn't any grease for it to stick to"

No "llantas usadas" out here either. stupid inspections.

Guess which one you are???

That's OK. We're the ones who support the restoration industry. I will say though that usually our interiors are busted and cut up, but not too faded.

No rust between those floor supports and floor pans, I don't think so.

If its a 60's car its got rust next to those spot welds.

You take a fourty year old car and starting driving it, all that spot welded sheet metal, you will start seeing rust coming out of the support area, unless its all ready been redone.

I'm not buying that rust free business.

Ask any body man, where will the rust show up first, where they were welded, they didn't have panel bonding or epoxy back then.

I have seen several west coast cars that looked just as bad as a car that lived its life in the rust belt.

I have also seen some cars from cold weather states like North and South Dakota, Montana and Colorado that looked like excellent condition restorations.

I use to live on the west coast of Sweden, so I have dealt with my fair share of rust. Not only did we have salt on the roads, after a good storm you would find your car all white with salt blown in from the sea. On the other hand, I did learn how to swing the BFH when disassembling suspension parts. :)

I never said the body wasn't rusty, but the frame is awfully nice. Thing must have leaked oil from when it was 3 days old :)

Sure, the trunk floor is toast like just about everybody else's, so I'm not trying to fool anybody.

I was just trying to mention that now I know how good I had it back in The Day.

:P

Keith, the body is rusty 'cause you drug it from northern Monrovia. Way colder up there. Nice day today but the wind was coming down the passes yesterday.
