Nothing is really too wrong with my original, but the filler neck must have been hammered back in the days of gas shortages, so there is no baffle to prevent kick backs when the tank is full at the gas station. I was going to get a new neck welded on, but I've heard that it's REALLY expensive due to the hot tanking and all the risk involved. A buddy has a 79 Camaro that he just got a brand new tank for (little surface rust on the old one) and i was wondering if anyone knew if it would fit? I'm going to take measurements this weekend, but I'd figure I'd run it up a flagpole and see what you guys think.

68 Sedan,
I've got the same problem with splashback on my '68 300. I figured it was natural for the design. I'm going to replace mine this spring anyway, just due to the corrosion on it.

I didn't even think of it being a design flaw which it very well could be. I know i wasn't around in the late 60's so i have no idea how fast the pumps were back then. Maybe a splash guard wasn't necessary with the speed of the pumps back then. I just assumed that somebody went to town with a screwdriver trying to pry the cap off, but I just looked and there really isn't any damage, so I guess not! Does anybody know about how much it would cost to put a late model neck on there so i can use a better cap then the 1/4 turn cap i have now? I might do that to this other tank if it fits just to save down time now that i think of it!
