I don't use the new paint because it is so thick looking that it is ok for a every day driver but on a car that is perfect and if you want it as close to original as possible I use lacquer.
Does anyone know what they mean by magic-mirror acrylic lacquer finish that it states in the owners manual.
Could GM have put lacquer clear in the paint before spraying.
What I mean is could they have mixed the clear in the paint together instead of spraying the clear on top of the color.
Could this be what they mean by magic-mirror finish.

I'm not a historian, but I do know that GM did not use any clear in the magic mirror lacquer.
Even though you can still buy & use lacquer today, I wouldn't use it unless it was concours resto on a rare and valuable car. Single stage urethane can be used to duplicate a lacquer finish and it will retain a shine much better. Lacquer dulls over time, especially the lacquers that are out on the market today. The original lacquers used from GM contained much more lead than todays offerings.
