So I posted a response to Chris (RedSS454) back in Nov re:his dog's cancer....it is always sad....at the time, my 13-1/2 year old Australian Shepherd, Kirra, had recently recovered from having a lung tumor removed....and finally last night, Karen and I had to make the decision to lay her to rest...she suddenly was having a hard time walking and just plain didn't look comfortable.....even though I have been through this before..it just isn't easy...we are all sad....including my 5 year old Border Collie who keeps walking around the house looking for her friend....anyway....just felt like I needed to vent.....sure sucks to not have her smiling face around here anymore......

You made a tough decision, but you know it was the right one. I admire you for being humane. Still it hurts (I know). I'm sorry for your loss.

Our cat is 17 1/2 and is always getting attention from all of us. We will really miss him when it is his time.

Sorry to hear about your beloved pet. We had to put our Dalmation to sleep after 16 years because he was old and was suffering of arthritis pain and couldnt even walk up stairs anymore. He had also become blind because if cataracs and was tough to just be out in the yard for him.

I was prepaired for when the day came to make the decision so I handled it well since I knew the day was coming years before we decided. But it still felt like there was something missing in the house for quite a while after that.

Sorry about your loss. They are part of the family. My dog butch is 13 and showing his age with a gray mug. He has arthur in his joint. I like dogs better than most people. I will never have another animal after he is gone because I can not stand the heartache.

Very sorry to hear that, Greg. Because of my dog passing away, I know exactly what you're going through. It's always a hard thing when a pet passes away, because they aren't "like" a member of the family, they are. Just remember that she is in a better place.

My thoughts are with you and your family.

Chris

Greg, sorry to hear this. As a dog owner most of my life, I've been through this a few times, and it's never easy. Should the day come that you get a new one, just know that your previous pets would approve, as they know what a great master you are. I still miss a couple of mine, but still laugh and share stories of them sometimes, too. It helps.

I feel for you. Been there a few times. Never easy, but fond memories will soon replace the sorrow.

Understand your pain about the loss of your dog. We also had to put our dog to sleep a day before Christmas in 2005. Sure sure do miss our Taz (a Chow/Shepard cross), especially the children...

My Yellow Lab had a heart attack on Christmas Day 2006. That was tough. 1 ½ years ago I lost the coolest dog in the world when he got hit by a truck. It is so very hard for a while, but remember: Your local animal shelter is probably full of dogs who would love to go home with you. They will give you a life time of devotion. I'm getting ready to get another.
