: POR vs Rust Encapsulator
61dragon Feb 11th, 04, 12:40 AM Hi All,
I need some recomendations, about which rust paint to use for my Chevelle.
I am trying to take care of some rust in a hard to reach area where the windshield wiper arms are located, right below the area of the front windshield. The area is hard to reach and sandblasting is impossible. I used a spray on rust killer but stoped there.
I can not properly prepare this area of rust, so would it be better to use Rust Encapsulator or go ahead with the POR?

61dragon Feb 12th, 04, 8:35 PM Wow,
Thanks for the information on the comparison test between POR and Rust Emcapsulator. It convinced me.
:D
flywheel Feb 13th, 04, 9:00 AM Ive used both.A little less of the rustencapsulator tho. They both may protect as well but the encapsulator I put on the bottom of my fender wiped right off with laquer thinner about 2 days later. graemlins/angry.gif You wouldn't do that with POR. smile.gif Ive put the encapsulator inside both doors then covered it with 3m's rust fighter....Just my .02

:D Before making a decision based on a comparison, make sure the comparison was done by a disinterested third party. You don't really think Eastwood would admit Por is better, do you? Of course they are going to stand by their own product. I'd lend just as little credibility to a comparison done by the manufacturers of Por 15. Bottom line, find a comparison test that was done by an independant source. In fact, I think one of the magazines conducted such a test sometime last year.
jerryr Feb 15th, 04, 10:30 AM I did this area with the POR also. Check out my "enginedetail" link below...

Rick Dorion Feb 16th, 04, 5:58 PM Although carried by Eastwood, the author is a body guy who did that comparo for Auto Restorer, a good mag I subscribe too. Can't fault Eastwood for referencing it but it was an independent evaluation.
