I am cutting out and replacing the trunk floor in a 66 chevelle. I am cutting it out with a plasma cutter. It isn't a problem is it? It don't create much heat and it is quick and easy. My question is about the edges of the old floor where they are welded to the inner quarter and the brace at the back of the trunk just on the top of the rise of the floor. What do I do about that? How do I get it apart without having to cut some of it out and replace part of that panel?

Just use the plasma cutter to get out the big pieces. Be careful of your trunk floor braces and the gas tank braces. Do not cut through these. Your gas tank is removed, right?
When you get the big pieces out, you will need to grind down or drill out the numerous spot welds holding the edges of the panels together.
Take your time, look at the new trunk pieces first and make sure that you are only removing what you can replace.

Yeah I removed the gas tank. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif Would have been a disaster otherwise. Thanks for your help. I wasn't sure exactly what to do.

I assume you have the new trunk floor pan.
I like to fit and mark the area for final triming last. Just do the BIG area and leave the edges, then drill and chisel out the spot welds on the wheel house and trunk filler panel. Last fit and mark for cutting the front where you crosss seam go's, then fit again B-4 you cut, and last the rear area. bottom brace rear filler panel and lower cross trunk panel.
if you have the three peice trunk floor kit
some like to split the floor in half and put 1/3 in R/S or L/S. them the center and then the last 1/3.

Spot weld cutters work excellent! I'd use one of them instead of grinding.
