I've been asking around for the best type of alarm system, but no one (here) really knows.
Which type of alarm system would you recommend for a ('68) Chevelle? And do you know the general price?
Thanks! smile.gif

Save your money. I installed alarms for 5 years and to me their simply a joke. Nobody gives them any attention when their going off.

I can wire up a $10 relay for starter kill/disable with a hidden switch and give the same results as a $300 alarm system, yet no loud sirens or flashing lights.

If you want any sense of security, consider haveing a "lo-jack" type product installed where the vehicle can ben tracked if it ever is stolen. If a thief wants your car, no piece of electronics equipment will keep them from taking it. Lo-jack will help you even the odds of getting it back.

You are probably better off with disabling the
starting or ignition systems over an alarm.

I don't need a gun I have a Donk.

I agree with the above statements, alarms are a joke. I installed alarms and stereos for a local shop while I was in college and they are worthless. Think about how many times you have heard an alarm going off in a parking lot somewhee, and how many of those times did you just ignore it.

Exactly why on my "alarm" actually security system the siren is disabled. remote just operates the PDL flashes the lights on arm and disarm and, lights the interior on disarming, and has a starter cutout relay.

The best security system in the world, is you in the vehicle, or locked up in your garage with an alarm on it.
Don't stray too far from it and don't go in bad areas.
I built a nice homemade alarm system for my garage and it works great.
I mounted a motion sensor like you would use outside and I put a 120 decibal alarm siren wired off one of the lights. Now I'm installing them in several buddys garages.

150 Dollars Got Me A Nice Alarm 6 Years Ago Out Of Crutchfield. Don't Spend More Than That. It Had Motion And Glass DETECTION And Was Fully Adjustable. It Rarely Went Off During Thunderstorms. I Want To Put 2 Sirens Inside The Cab Next Time And Will Also Wire It Into My Ignition Or Fuel Supply To Cut Power Off.

i bought the cheapest, smallest alarm i could find (VPA for 50 bucks) just so i could have a remote door opener, since there were a few "security" features just hanging around i hooked up the ignition kill and the flashing red interior LED (which alone may be a bigger, better deterent than horns blowing and lights flashing)...and really, isnt it to little to late by then?, and everything seems to work just fine, im thrilled to report my car has not been stolen since then, or since i got my first car for that matter, for my money a lojack or some sort of gps devise is the only real security, you think theres never been a car stolen from a garage?....and is it really wise to think if a femalel (or male) is present in her/his vehicle, that that makes them safe and secure? if some thug wanted my girlfriends car i would hope shes miles away.....i grew up with guns and live in a state that permits concealed weapons but i dont carry one because its been my experience that if you have a gun and theres trouble, its going to be gun trouble and personally unless that thug has my girl in a choke hold, im not taking the chance of going to prison for ventilating his brain pan when he grabs my door handle (which, im afraid, is a more likely scenario).. call me trigger happy :)

one other point: how many times have you heard an alarm go off and when you glanced that direction you saw some buck toothed huckleberry in a marilyn manson t-shirt working away at a car door with a slim jim? ...i'm pretty sure i wouldnt ignore that or even shrug and hope the owners insured as i went about my own business
