I just got back from the junkyard with what I think was a great deal. I got the whole area around the winsheild. I took my trusty sawzall and a generator, and started cutting. I left about 4inches all the way around, plus I got the dash all in tack. I don't think I did too bad for $50. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Now to the point. Can I put this in as one piece, or should I cut it into pieces. The back window needs to be done also, wich I will do when I find a donar 67 Elky (hint, hint) http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif Would it be possible to remove the whole top without worring about the structural integrity(sp?) of the car. Re- skin it so to speak.

Or since I have no body work expierance , and just learning to weld http://www.chevelles.com/forum/frown.gif, would this project be better left to the pro's. Thanks for any input, Cal

Our '69 needed the front lip of the actual dash replaced from being rusted, but the cowl and the rest of the windshield area(s) was fine. We bought a parts car, and changed out the complete dash. Now we are having an aluminum instrument cluster formed to install our 10 autometer guages.

Is this simular to yours, or is it really rusty around the entire windshield?

Hey 72, without seeing some pics, its hard to say how much you should replace, but I would replace any rusted metal. Also, you can use a 64/67 rear window section, Im pretty sure they are the same. Good luck.

It sounds like your working on a 67 Elky.
if you retrived GOOD doner parts. I would install it in one peice. (The lower window lip)
As for the rear window rust problem.
They make a panel to repare that, It's and easy fix . Because it seem's they not only rust at the channel but between the panel and the bed bulkhead as well and the new panel replaces all that.

Thanks for the replies. Wayne, as far as the rear window, I've seen those pieces your talking about. True that would work, but this is also rusted in the corners as well. If I can't find a donor car, that's what I'll get for at least that section.

Bigmoe, I never thought about the earlier years being the same. I guess I need to find away to varify that the sheet metal is the same and not just the glass. Anyone know about that. Thanks, Cal
