I am painting a new door that I bought for my wifes 02 Camry, the problem is that the top of the door that hold the glass they did not paint at Toyota and just left it in EDP. I scratched some off the old door and checked, problem is the new Toyota door has a few scratches back to bare metal on this part so I have to repaint and make it look close to the EDP.
I should have looked it over beter and refused it at the dealer!

Zach am not 100% sure what the problem is but that your new door has a few scratches in EDP primer that have gone down to bare metal?
If that is the case Id just DA them out with 400 and 400 the rest of the door, seal and paint. Now if the bare metal spots are bigger then say the dia of a pop bottle then I like to spray some etch primer on those areas first. I just use some spray bomb etch made by PPG.
On the backside and areas that DA wont fit use a red scotchbrite pad.
Also I like to wipe the door down with surface cleaner before and after sanding. Some of the guys I work with DONT believe in cleaners, that drives me up the wall. With you wash it first it rids any oils etc from the surface this way when you sand your aint sanding them into the metal. I use PPG DX330 surface cleaner cost is llike 22 bucks...Eric

Believe it or not the original doors ie.. the other 3 that were not damaged all have EDP around the outer window frame. This is visible from the outside of the car, weird huh? Anyway, I need to leave that top inch or so of the outside of the door in EDP since that is what the factory did on the other doors, but my replacement door has a scratch to bare metal where I need to leave it in EDP in order to match the other doors, so I have to find a paint that matches the flat EDP look on the other doors, I just bought a digital camera and will send pics from now on they are worth a thousand words when talking this technical stuff. Thanks for the input, I have DX330 and always use it before I paint over paint.
