i didnt remove anything when i did mine, laid in the floorboard, twisted snd cussed my arm in there, had my brother start the bezel when i pushed it back through, did it this way because i didnt want to chance scratching my freshly painted dash, its pretty tough, but can be done. good luck

1.Insert key
2.Turn to acc.position
3.Insert paper clip in small hole to release lock cyl.
4.Remove bezel(screws on/off)
5.Push switch thru dash
6.Should be able to reach switch under dash.
7.Remove plug.
8.Reverse 1-7 to re-install(paper clip not req'd to install lock cyl)

As noted above, it's a chore getting your arm up the backside of the dash and your hand up to the top tier of the dash but it can be done if your hands aren't too big.

Be sure to disconnect the negative battery cable before starting the steps outlined by BigFred66. :D

Perhaps you could just insert the key. Rotate key backwards to acc. Insert a small drill bit or nail to depress the small button and release the key tumbler part. My 66 had a worn switch that was really worn out. I had another used one off another car (67 Pontiac actually) that was much better condition, but not perfect.

I just swapped both tumblers. The actual switch mechanism works just fine no matter which tumbler section is used.
