I painted the cover of my Air Cleaner with Rustoleum Gloss Black Enamel and it is not smooth. It appears like fine orange peel.
How & can this be "rubbed out" to make it smooth? Or, should I have used acrylic lacquer paint?

From my experience Rustoleum enamel is just about the worst paint to use anyplace on a car. I would sand it down to bare metal, metal prep it, and use VHT high temp. paint, this is the ONLY spray can paint the works that I know of.
I've used a paint called Air Cleaner Coating made by http://oempaints.com/
It works great!
