what looks the best on them is a 15X8 with 4.5 backspacing. On a 68 to 72 you can get away with a 275/60-15 . On a 66 , 67 I think the best you can do is a 255/60-15.

I have heard if you go with a 17 or 18 inch rim 295s are possible might take a bit of massaging with a hammer. I have 255/50s on mine and they fit no problem at least an inch on the inside and a inch and half of clearance on the outside.

Henry,
My 66 has the following on it. I'm sure it would work on your 67.
Front wheels are Wheel Vintiques
(from Summit Racing) 15X8's with 4.5 backspacing. Tires are 245/60/15.
Rears are Wheel Vintiques
(from Summit) 15X8's with 5.0 backspacing.....because I have a 70 chevelle rear...its 1 inch wide than a 64-67 other wise 4.5 BS would center the wheel. Tires are 275/60/15.
I put Hotchkis 1" lowering springs on all four corners with no issues at all.

Henry here is what 275/60-15s with 8" rims with 4.5 back space looks like. I went to school at Miami A&M :beers: is it still there? Jb http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/showfull.php?photo=4061

Nope...

I use to run 295/50-15 with about 15 X 8 with about 4.75" BS, NO outer lip mods ( no trimming, no rolling, even ran the stock wheel well trim)...

I also ran 15X7 (I forget the BS, but its in the sticky thread) rims up front with 265/50-15s...

AND the car was EXTREMELY lowered at one time with those tires (had a slight rubbing problem on the front at near full lock)...

Unless you have 3" dual exhaust pipes, I was real disappointed i can't use the 275's i will have to settle for 255.

Are you sure on the b.s. on front wheels?

4.5" of b.s. on a 8" rim, the front wheel will leave 3.5" outer wheel visible.

5" of b.s. on a 8" rim, the rear wheel will leave 3" of outer wheel visible.

To the eye your front wheel will appear wider than the rear...unless you are putting a full hubcap on the wheel, then you can't see it

Update: the 275's based on the tire specs where not supposed to fit but when i actually put the tires on the car they fit with room to spare. Just wnated to let you know if you are considering the 275 and read my post.
