My trunk is noisy. If you tap o it with your knuckle it makes a "rattleing" sound from the sheet metal. Its not a loose rattle, just a tinny rattle. Part of this could be the torsion rods, as pointed out by one of our members, but there is more to it.

Any thoughts?

mine vibrated real bad idling around town,2.5 inch dumps at the rear axle, the reverberation was terrible, so I loosened the gas tank and put some rubber from a cut up inner tube between the tank and the trunk and it worked wonders http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Could it be the trunklid inner bracing vibrating against the underside of the lid's out skin? After so many years the blobs of adhesive that hold them together to keep them from vibrating and buzzing often comes loose. This is almost always the case if the lid has been dip stripped.

There should also be a sleeve of rubber to keep the torsion bars from rubbing together as metal to metal. If a quarter panel was replaced, make sure the bracing from the inner wheel well to the quarter at the trunk openning was reattached properly. After my first resto I found the body man had failed to spot weld that spot back together. Bonehead.

I know first hand this is common on 66's & 67's. Always have had a 'tinny' sound to the deck lids. I don't think there is anything between the outer sheet metal and the inner sheet metal. They are three pieces aren't they? If it's really bothersome I guess you could gingerly drill an access hole or two and inject some seam sealer in there. If you can't find the rattle I guess you lock yourself in the trunk while your wife takes you for ride while you find the rattle http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Thnx all. It is the inner/outer shell. Guess I'll ask the paintman who did a great job on the car what can be done.

Gene, don't forget that you have the built in bottle cap remover under the lid too ! I always enjoyed that tinny sound in my friends 66/67's....Like the rats running around content and all...Shawn
