: Center Console Speaker 72'chevelle
Nebur72 Apr 2nd, 07, 4:40 PM Hi all,
I've been looking into the posts,I couldn't find exactly what I'm looking for.
I need to know the speakers specs if I want to upgrade the center console speaker on my car.
I bought the 6X9 over the weekend, and I want to buy the center as well. What other speakers do I have in the dashboard.
1972 Malibu Chevelle,2 drs.
If any points "how to" install these it would be great also..
Thanks

bluechevelless Apr 2nd, 07, 4:42 PM Center console speaker? I dont think they came with that??
72 malibu Apr 2nd, 07, 4:47 PM You are talking about the dash, right? You either have a stereo dash(one speaker on the right, one left) or the mono, center speaker dash. I had a mono, bought a stereo dash and some speakers that were built to fit the stereo dash, I think from Classic Chevelles, I would have to check that, did it about 10 years ago. Just pull the dash pad out and there you go, right there. My 8-track never sounded better:beers:
Nebur72 Apr 2nd, 07, 4:59 PM i get sound only for my side..Probably the sterao dash then..The other speaker not working.
Yes talking about the dash.Let me take a look at the pad on how to take it off. Thanks for the info.
So no center speaker then? Thanks again
53Chev Apr 2nd, 07, 5:47 PM There are five screws facing upside down on the underneath of the top edge of the dash. A couple near the speedometer cluster and a couple more to the right and above the dash. Take them all out, slide the dash pad towards you and then it should slide right out. The installation is the reverse of that and you have to make sure that the pad clips are in position and slid into the dash slots upon installation of it back in place.
It is a lot easier then it sounds. Trial and error. I learned on my own and didnt realize how easy it was until i did it myself.
One last point, NEVER force it in or out. If it wont budge, dont pry or bend it. Dont wedge anything into it to pry it loose. If it doesnt come out easily then you havent removed all the screws.
Good luck!

hotrodlincoln Apr 2nd, 07, 7:07 PM There are also two screws in the glovebox that have to be removed. Also push up on the pad and then pull it out. Just had mine out and it was simple. I think I had six screws all together, four by the gauges and two in the glovebox. This is with the ss gauge dash and I don't know about the sweep dash.

The dash will have 'holes' where the speaker is located, I mean a bunch of little ones , for sound. If you have those on left and right side than it is a stereo dash, if you have them in the middle of the dash only then mono. 53's post explains r&r of the dash well. You can convert to either desired, that is what I did, mono to stereo.
dscabra Apr 2nd, 07, 10:26 PM Also note that if your car has/had factory air conditioning, then there can't be a center speaker (no place for it to fit with the A/C ducts).
