Can someone explain this process, I understand this is a more desireable process to pro shifting the synhros for a car driven on street and reduces missed shifts dramatically when power shifted at the track ??

Hey Bill,
Sorry I can't help you. Just out of curiousity, how is that tremec to shift? I heard that the old Tremec TKO 5 speed trannies were hard to shift under power/at RPM.

As you pbly know I have not had car to track ( officially) so not alot of hard shifting ...... I had valve train issues and since car took so long to complete I just took it easy the first season ........ however I did run the car thru the gears about 6-7 times powershifting at 6850 ( tell tale shift lite) ...... no problems .......although I can see where it would not be too difficult to go to 2nd gear when shifting 3-4 !!! I know of someone who did it with the stock Tremec shifter .......I have the McLeod shifter ...... it does not shift a smooth as a Muncie but once you get used to it its just different .......also I use Auto Trans fluid in it ??? But I hear about alot who find it hard to shift at 6K plus and 3-4 and 2-3 is easy to miss ?? I pbly not a good one to ask as have not run it hard alot .... and not with slicks I have heard but only rumour that the nylon bushings in the Tremec shift rails do wear out after alot of race use and that can cause shift issues too FWIW
I have to take mine apart to change the OD ratio since I went from 3.73 / .82od gears to 4.30 bot parts to change od to .64 .... so if I have to take apart may as well consider a "tune up"

I shift my TKO-600 at 6800rpm with no problems NOW! When I first made
the Muncie to Tremec switch, 2nd to 3rd was a royal pain. I kept trying to
place it into 3rd instead of just smashing it forward. No problems now! I
also still have the stock Tremec shifter. I would like to hear a little more
about the nylon bushings wearing out! What other modifications are out
there for people that really like to beat on them?

No body ?? I think it has something to do with modifying the slider but not sure ??

faceplating involves cutting the shift teeth off the gears and welding dog-rings in their place. the sliders are replaced with special sliders that mate with the dog rings. This setup is streetable, but is harsh so be aware. you MUST pull the shifter HARD and FAST when you shift, as granny shifting will result in alot of grinding and damaged dog-rings. when you make the shifts, you will hear hard metal to metal contact(slider to dog-rings). Another side effect is that there will be very noticable backlash in the drivelin after doing this(only in the gears that have been faceplated). The bennefit is that it is near impossible to miss a shift!, and you can physically complete the shifts MUCH faster than a syncronized trans, which is really good for the strip.
Check out http://www.libertysgears.com/ they do it all.
lastly if you are going to the strip with a manual trans, you need to get yourself a soft-lock style clutch(RAM single iron, or Mcleod soft lock), going drag racing a stick shift without 1 is like trying to drag race an automatic with a stock torque converter.
edit: theese clutches are streetable as well, you just need to be willing to do a bit of clutch maintnance.
