After a lot of conversations on this board about carb choices for me, I bought the Holley 950 HP and I'll tell ya, what a difference in the seatometer.
Haven't had a chance to dyno it or track test it yet but I like the way it feels with a steadier pull thru all the gears. Bob West and a lot of others have said, it is a big difference from the 750 vac sec. Keep you posted when I get some real results. Thanks a bunch for the info!!!!!!

I don't care what anyone says...Holley DOES know how to build a good carb!!

You'll be happy!

John, glad to see your happey with your new carb so what size is your motor, whats your cam spec, comp, heads, gear, trans, etc?

I am asking this so all of us can see what type setup responded so well to a change from a 750vac sec to 950hp holley when it comes to seat of the pants performance?

Also, with out taking the time too look up the holley 950hp specs is that a vac sec or mech/dbl pumper carb?

Thanks...Scott

Yes, so far I'm estatic and can't wait for the track results. It opens on the 14th and if it were up to me, when they get there, I'll be standing there with a cup of joe and the news paper. I will look to go on a t&t session on a wed nite first.

crane 250 dur. with 627 and 603 lift solid flat tappet on 114 lobe sep
10.5 to 1 comp
411 12 bolt posi (new 411s this year)
4sp muncie 21
approx 500 hp at crank 410 at wheels

Your mph says you had mid 11's with your old setup, shouldn't be too much longer now.

John, thanks for details on your setup,i appreaciate it.

411's,that pretty tall gear for the street with an m21,any plans to drop it down to 355 or 373 for better street maners (compaired to 411's that is) and to also not run out of gear on the 1320 too?

BTW,i see your from CT,do you go to Marcus Dairy on Saturday nights in the summer,i go 3-4 times a season comming from poughkeepsie n.y.. It's a nice 1 hour cruise on RT84 from Pok to Danbury for the show,i am running 3:31's so i can cruise fairly comfortably at 65mph @ approx 2,850 rpms even though i almost get run over at that speed. But when i am reallt betting run over @ 65mph i do step it up to 70mph for short periods of time like 8-10 mins which is approx 3,000 rpms but then i step it back down to 65mph after that .

John,
last year we took the 850 vac holley off and put the 4150 hp 950 on my worked over zz502, man what a big difference, felt like somebody poured a can of horsepower in the thing. Seat of the pants feel was huge. The m22 really liked the mechanical secondary. JD

I just changed from 373s to the 411s and maybe I stated it wrong, I was going into 4th gear with about 100ft before the line in the qt. So, with the change of gears I will be shifting into 4th sooner than I was with the 373s.
BTW, the street manners are what I expected from 411s so I find myself in 4th a lot in the city and now with the new carb, the tq is great even in 4th so it's not a hassle. On the highway I just deal with it.
No I've not been to the dairy but would consider going if we could hook up sometime.
JD
thats what I was saying, what a difference in the seat of the pants. It was well worth it.
