: Modification vs. valuation???

Couple more questions. The 70 SS convertible i just picked up is code 48 dark green metallic, has a bench seat colum shift auto and no air conditioning.
I have the original block for the car but the original transmission is missing (currently has a th350, build sheet says it was a 400) and i believe the original rear end is missing as well, at least there is a 10 bolt in the car now and i was thinking all SS big block cars (350 horse) had 12 bolts, the code on the build sheet is G94 331 ratio axle, anyone know if its a 12, 10, or even a posi code? Let me know if i am mistaking on this point please.
Anyhow i am thinking of changing a few things on the car. Like the color, not to fond of the dark green and even though i live in a town of 220 people there is another 70 SS 396 convertible right here in town with the same exact color, stripes and top! Figure the odds on that one! I am also thinking of changing the car to bucket seats with a console instead of the bench as well as making it a 4 speed car over the factory automatic. One other thing i am considering doing is adding air to it but not sure. If i added air i would probably need to cut into the firewall wouldnt i? On 2nd gen camaros i know you have to, at least to use the factory stuff.
Anyhow i may not do any of the above modifications, this is a car i plan on keeping and if making the above mods, either in whole or in part, would detract from the value of the car then i would rather not do them. However if i had a preference for one mod over the other it would be a color change, i could more readily live with the others as they are.
Thanks in advance for any replies!

If you plan on keeping the car, do what you want-increase its value to you! If you are really worried about resale, detail the car real good, sell it, use cash to get car you really want. Most modifications usually decrease resale value, but not always. Air conditioning is popular, buckets are popular, other colors are more popular than green; make those changes and a numbers-matching resto-junkie won't buy your car, but someone looking for a car they enjoy may be looking for just that car.

Decide which is top priority-resale value or having a car the way YOU want it.

I went through the same questions...and I decided that if I wanted to modify a car I would start with a malibu. So I sold my original numbers 70ss convertible and built a clone...yes a clone! Made it the color I wanted, added buckets, console, all the power options I could find, built the engine like I wanted etc etc..All SS equip is installed, no way to tell its a clone. But its built the way I wanted, and I couldnt bring myself to mod a factory original car with build sheets and all. I would restore it as it was, or sell it and build a malibu. Just my opinion, its your car, and you can tub it and paint it purple if thats what you want (but I like black) http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

First : Get the car you really want for you.
Second : Build just the way you want it.

There are better investments than cars if you are just looking for return on the dollar.

OH I plan on keeping this car! But i personally would rather have it with a 4 speed and air. However i also hate to f**k up a good car over my own selfishness so to speak.
Anyone know how much midification is required to the firewall to put in factory AC?? Thanks

You get to cut a BIG hole in the firewall, we are talking permanent "no goin back" size hole.

Vintage air was just discussed in the past week. I don't remember the forum. Do a search & it should turn up. General reviews were good.
