Hi all,
I've finally decided that I want to start getting the body in shape on my '72 SS and need a little advice. I've got a few small holes around the lower part of the body, and want to know what I can do at this point to keep it from rusting any more. I'm not going to be doing any major body work or painting for a little while, I just want to keep it from rusting any more than it is, and try to make what I do have just a little less noticeable. A friend was telling me about a rust convertor product, that changes the rust into some type of a hard material that you can work with, but I'm hesitant to think that this is the right way to do it. When I get the money to do all the body work, I'll have all this rust cut out, and new sheet metal welded in. Any advice will be appreciated http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

With small areas like that, you can get away with patch panels. They're not expensive at all. The rust conversion products are generally not recommended for automotive use. I've been told they contain acids that, over time, can cause more damage than they prevent. Por 15 or Eastwood Corroless are the only two products on the market specifically made for automotive use. www.por15.com (http://www.por15.com) www.eastwoodcompany.com (http://www.eastwoodcompany.com)

There really is no band-aid fix that'll hide the damage for now. You'll just have to live with the appearance until finances allow you to fix it right.
