: 69 rear bumper removal
John69SSChevelle Mar 13th, 04, 5:09 PM Okay, is there a trick to getting this thing off? I've removed the four bolts on each side and the ones near the license plate, but it still won't come off. it seems loose, but just rocks back and forth. Before I go bending stuff, are there more than 6 bolts holding her on? Thanks for the help...
Ron_Long Mar 13th, 04, 6:38 PM The six bolts sound right. Did you disconnect the license plate light?
66n67 Mar 13th, 04, 7:09 PM Not sure but is there a center U bracket by the fuel filler?
John69SSChevelle Mar 13th, 04, 9:19 PM Hey, thanks for the replies. No, I did not rmove the license plate light. I'll try that tomorrow. I'll also check out around the fuel filter area too. There's a lot of rust on the frame area near the bumper brackets. I also have to replace 2/3 of the driver side trunk due to rust. Got a project, tho'. !! Anyway, thanks for the help and post when I figure it out....
John69SSChevelle Mar 13th, 04, 9:22 PM Just reread your post Coyotebluff... long day. I saw fuel filter, not filler. Yep there's a bracket by there, but I think I got all the bolts out of that area. I'll check again am.. Long day today....
Keith Tedford Mar 14th, 04, 4:40 PM Sounds like it is sitting on the filler neck.
John69SSChevelle Mar 14th, 04, 9:27 PM The whole bumper is loose, but it just won't come off. It's not touching the filler neck, at least it's not binding there. I didn't get a chance to mess with it today, but tomorrow I try again... ;)
jonbonvon Mar 14th, 04, 9:52 PM Hey gang, there are ten(10) bolts holding rear bumber on, 4 on each side and two in the center, over the license plate area. I just reinstalled mine and thats how many there are. Hope this helps....
jonbonvon Mar 14th, 04, 9:58 PM Reference my above response, I am assuming that you are trying the remove the bumper and the brackets as a single unit, which should be the easiest way to remove the bumper...
Tomb7us Mar 15th, 04, 6:35 PM I just took my bumber off a few days ago and if i can recall it was 6... 2 on each far side and 2 in the middle 6 or 8 with 2 or 4 in the licence plate area i took it all off as 1 piece with the brackets
John69SSChevelle Mar 15th, 04, 11:00 PM Yeah, that's what I'm trying to do. All the brackets at once with the bumper. Thanks for all the help. I still haven't had a chance to get out there and work on it, tho'! GRRRR. just life I guess. Thanks again....

I just removed the rear (and front) bumper off a '69 Malibu last night to send off for rechroming... 4 bolts on each side, two in the middle above the licence bracket and don't forget to remove the plate light.
John69SSChevelle Mar 16th, 04, 10:46 PM Okay, thanks for the info. I looked at it today and I need to take the plate light off and try and find the other two bolts on each side. Always tomorrow......
John69SSChevelle Mar 18th, 04, 10:50 PM Well, I just got my factory assembly manual from OPG and it does show 4 per side and 2 in the middle. Now I just have to figuer out how to find the other 2 missing side bolts...
