I have a 1971 chevelle and am needing to replace the pullswitch that controls all the lights. Ive been looking all over and asking everyone i know and no one seems to know how to procede. I dont like getting into a job before I have a good idea how to go about it so I havent started pulling things apart yet. I was wondering if anyone has replaced that particular part and if so howd you go about it? Any help would be greatly apreciated.

You can r & r your light switch from either above the dash by removing your dash pad or below by reaching up from under the dash. I've done it both ways. The easiest way is by working from the top after removing the dash pad. Start by disconnecting the negative cable on your battery.
Pry off your harness connector from the l.h. side of the switch ass'y. Again, this is easiest done from the top with the dash pad removed, but it can be done from under the dash with a reasonable amount of determination.
There is a spring loaded button located on the r.h. or passenger side of the switch assembly. Depressing this button will release the knob on the front of your dash. Press the button in and pull out the knob, just as you would turn on your lights. Once the knob and shaft are out, remove the nut on the face of the dash that holds the switch in place and removal is done. Reverse the procedure to install your new switch. Once everything is back in, pull your control knob out all the way and make sure that the spring catch has "caught" and the knob and shaft will stop in the headlights "on" position.
